HELLENIC LEAGUE: Bohane is Hellenic's 'top marksman'
6:00am Friday 1st November 2013 in Sport
HELLENIC Premier strugglers Abingdon United will face ‘the best centre forward in the league’ tomorrow when Highworth visit Northcourt Road, according to Worthians manager John Fisher, writes CHRISTOPHER PANKS.
TJ Bohane has netted 21 times in as many appearances since Fisher brought him back to the Elms in the summer and Fisher believes his faith in his skipper has been rewarded.
“I said in the summer that he’s the best striker in the league and lots of people might have disagreed,” said Fisher.
“I think his goal conversion and work rate is on another level and I still think he’s the best in the league. What sets him apart is what he gives you even when he’s not scoring.”
Highworth defender Kevin Tate and defensive midfielder Toby Clark, the latter of which hobbled off during the 7-0 victory over Holyport on Saturday, will be absent for tomorrow’s clash. But Clark’s ankle injury is looking less serious than first feared.
“We thought he might have broken it, but it has been diagnosed as ligament damage which should mean he’s back in a few weeks,” said Fisher.
“We’ve got a quite a big squad so we’ll need to assess which personnel we have to cover, because it’s an important role that Toby plays.”
Wootton Bassett keeper Steve Allison wants his side to recover from the disappointment of the Abingdon result when promotion-chasing Ardley arrive at the Corinium tomorrow.
Ardley are third in the table while Bassett are close to being dragged into a relegation scrap.
Allison said: “Losing to Abingdon has made us all the more determined to go out on Saturday and win.
“We seem to raise our game against the sides who are doing well and maybe we get a bit complacent against those around us, so hopefully we can get a result.”
