POWERLIFTING: A dream debut for Charlie
6:00am Saturday 2nd November 2013 in Sport
IT was first time lucky for Charlie Shotton-Gale as she won the British Classic Powerlifting Championships in Lincolnshire.
The Swindon lifter was competing in a Classic event for the first time, having won multiple British titles in the equipped discipline, and was keen to see how she got on in the unequipped side to the sport.
Shotton-Gale managed to achieve 140k on her squat, 92.5k on her bench and 175k on her deadlift and was delighted with how she got on, but is now looking for sponsors as she prepares to compete on both circuits.
“I‘m so pleased to say I am double British champion in equipped and unequipped powerlifting, but I have the World Equipped Powerlifting Championships in two weeks in Norway so I have no time to rest and it’s straight back to hard training.”
“I also am now looking for a sponsor to help me with my travelling expenses as they have now doubled to include classic international competitions as well. Next year I have been asked to compete in Bulgaria, South Africa and the USA along with national and smaller international championships.”
“I have just gone back to university to study for a masters degree in strength and conditioning so am limited on the time I can spend working, so I am looking for sponsors to help me fund my trips which will allow me to focus on studying and training hard.”
“At the World Championships I am entered as fifth when last year’-s position was seventh, so already I have gained two places from the improvements I have made in 11 months.
“With more time to spend on my training, imagine how much more I could do over the next 12 months. I love representing my country and making the people of Swindon proud.”
