SWINDON TOWN: Players and coaching staff to personally refund fans

Swindon Advertiser: Mark Cooper Mark Cooper

MARK Cooper has confirmed that Swindon Town's players and coaching staff will personally refund the 305 fans who traveled to Macclesfield on Saturday.

After the 4-0 defeat, Cooper told the Advertiser that he would seek recompense for the supporters who made the trek to Moss Rose, and he has done just that with the squad and coaches set to refund fans for the cost of their match tickets out of their own pockets.

The Town boss said: "Everyone was ashamed of the performance and we appreciate the support that we have home and away.

"It's just to show that we're all in this together."

I wasn't there but it didn't look pretty on the highlights. I think that's the only way we'll ever be first match on the show!
This is a great gesture. They didn't have to do it so all credit to them for doing so.

Well done mark, at least the fans will respect that. The result will never be forgotten or the performance, don't think the buck lies with you at all.
Your not that stupid to realise that we have no cover at the back so hall, ward are guaranteed a starting place, I think you need to stand on your two feet and ask to get loans in, or I think the end of managing swindon will come quicker than you think.
Come on mark get in powers office and demand loans, I really like the set up now after having no confidence in you, and as I said to you in the dugout after the crewe game you can be a legend at this club and I for one would certainly welcome that. But there is nothing like a town fan scorned.
Good luck Tuesday i will be there giving you and the team 100%.

Silly in my opinion - it's become a bit of trend to do this. I can remember travelling for weekday match at Blackpool in the late 1970's losing 5-2 on a damp, grotty evening in May and not even dreaming of asking for a refund - that's all part of being a supporter - thick and thin. So get a grip you lot - losing isn't an embarrassment - there are fair worse things in life. You can keep your money Mark - onwards and upwards.

I don't consider it silly at all Hov!, I don't know how good Blackpool were in the 70's but losing to them by a 3 goal margin having scored two ourselves is incomparable with our result against Macc. Losing is not the big issue here, it is the manner in which we surrendered our place in the FA cup.

To put this in perspective for you, we lost by a four goal margin having scored none to a NON-LEAGUE SIDE who have their own fans playing for them and faced a winding up order during this summer and are 14th in their league. I'm not one of those calling for Cooper's head but I do think that the fans deserve refunding in the very least!

I'm hoping for a big back lash tomorrow night. God help Wycombe. But If, IF we get beat again without a fight, cant see the payers covering around 7500 ish tickets

I think this is an important gesture and credit to them but what I really want to know is why there was no desire and application at the time?

Was it arrogance that it would be an easy win? Was it, again, tactical niaivity in the face of a well marshalled opposition? Were they poorly prepared? Had some been out on the lash the night before? Or something else? To have answers to these questions would help to find the way to avoid repeats and silence those who constantly want to either sack the manager or certain players every time we get a bad result.

I went p from Dorset on Saturday and back on Sunday. I do not want a refund - I consider it still, despite the result, a privilege to watch youngsters with real talent showing their developing craft. OK so mistakes were made, nobody loses deliberately, the talent was self evident despite the wider picture. Thank you Mr Cooper - I pay my money and I don't expect to see a win - I pay to see 2 sides play a game of football with no guarantees of the outcome. I had a great weekend thx and look forward to my next trip to Staffordshire.

I respect Mark Cooper for doing this, but why should the coaching staff have to reimburse us fans, it was the players who let our club down! I was there on Saturday and it was awful, but i didn't expect to get a refund on my ticket. Luckily i have retrieved my ticket from the bin but I'm sure most of the other Town fans will have thrown their tickets away somewhere in Macclesfield, i assume we will only get our money back if we still have our ticket?

I don't want Mark Cooper to get sacked or leave, i have really warmed to him and think he will become a very good manager for us but we must stick with him through this transitional period. Having said that i really think we need to play more defensively away from home, we simply don't have the players to play 3 at the back, they are too slow to deal with hopeful punts over them and pacey runners.

Thank you Mark Cooper for this gesture, i am not really that worried about the money and didn't expect to be reimbursed, hopefully this will focus the players mindset and as others have said above we will get a positive reaction from the players not only tomorrow night but for the rest of the season?

Great opening salvo.

Goals have not been a problem and Saturday was the first time for a number of weeks when we haven't scored.

You say we should drop Ward and Hall ! Who do we play in their place ? I suspect Branco may get a run out tomorrow but we do need cover as people have identified. Can we afford it is another question.

I don't think you can draw comparisons between this and any other Swindon performance. This was a trouncing from a non league club. I didn't go on Saturday but if I had I'd definitely be in the queue for a refund.

What worries me is that Mr Cooper as much as you are a nice bloke, you do not have the capacity to change things when they go t&ts up. We all see it in the stands, why can't you? Yes we have had some good wins against poor teams, but in the long run we will only remember the rubbish results!! And thats what you will get remembered for.
