IT WAS a day of firsts in Swindon Sunday League Division 2 at the weekend, as Blyskawica suffered their first defeat of the season and Tap & Barrel picked up their maiden victory, writes KEVIN BRIDGEMAN.

Blyskawica, currently second, fell to a 5-2 defeat at Deers Leap and Scott Scanlon did most of the damage with a hat-trick.

Roger Munday and a Nathan Gambling penalty shocked Blyskawica who replied through Chris Mills and Miec Wojewodka.

Tap and Barrel finally got points on the board courtesy of a Chris Roberts header in a 1-0 win at AC Swindon.

Sam Hackett bagged a brace for Running Horse who beat Dynamo Ashton 2-1 and West Swindon Wanderers won 4-2 at Wanborough.

For Wanderers Alex Sherriff grabbed a hat-trick and Steve Callan scored, while Pete Myall registered twice for the hosts.

The one game in Division 1 saw Greyhound overcome 10-man Penhill United 10-2.

Steve Robertson helped himself to six and Rory Sproule got two, with singles for Terry Moore and Tony Joyce. Incredibly, Chris Angell had initially put Penhill 2-0 up.

Cheney hammered Rudis 6-0 in Division 3 with Aaron Welland scoring a hat-trick and further strikes from Liam Preedy, Scott Price and Chris Price adding to Rudis’ misery.

Rodbourne Real overcame 1957 Parks in a thriller which ended 4-3 to hosts Rodbourne. John Reeves, Johnny Higham, Andy Ponting and Nathan Cooper were on target. Robnor Resins edged out PL Motor Service 4-3.

In Division 4, Eldene player-manager Calum Dunn scored four goals in his side’s 5-3 win over Chiseldon Sunday, with Derek Pedley also scoring.

Swindon Asians overcame Cleeve Tech 2-1 as Josh Kaliroy and Jordan McCalla got on the scoresheet and Ash Andrews replied with a penalty. FS Swindon beat Toothill Revolution 5-2.

It was first versus third in Division 5 with leaders DBS edging out DH Fitness 2-1. John Ferry put DBS 2-0 up before Dan Heath replied.

DPR beat AFC Swindon United 4-1 and Greendown won 4-3 at FC Wedge.

Top scorers of the day were Marlborough Casuals in Division 6, who thrashed Save on Tyres Athletic 16-0.

The goals came courtesy of Craig Simmonds (5), Max Derrick (4), Tom Wren (3), Seb Blay (2) and Tom Thatcher and Ash Holt.

Rug Shack smashed CM Automotive 9-0 with Dwayne Emery scoring three and Brad Stanners two, while John Rouse, Dan Smith, Shaun Grant and Wesley Smart were on target.

Luke Jarrett scored the only goal as leaders Coleshill Youth defeated Bounce Squad 1-0. AFC Royal beat Gorsehill Borough 5-3 and AFC Freshbrook won 3-2 at Cricklade Park Rangers with goals from Danny Knight (2) and Ashley Stevens.

There were a number of all-Swindon affairs in the Wiltshire Sunday Cup third round with AFC Gas beating Fox and Hounds 4-1. Ash Taylor got two and James Blake and Eddie Herbert also scored, while Blaine Fitzgerald grabbed a consolation.

Dolphin needed extra-time to overcame Inter Sandgate 5-3. John Morse’s hat-trick and efforts from Lee Tierney and Nathan Blackford was enough to overcome Sandgate for whom Richie Crocker, Jake Page and Dean Wootten scored.

The Windmill upset higher-division Wheatsheaf 11-1. Matty Bennett and Terry Dearing both notched hat-tricks and Aaron Hellewell (2), Chris Belph, John McGrory and a penalty from keeper Colin Yates completed the scoring. Mike McCluskey was on target for Wheatsheaf.

Elsewhere, KC Globe thrashed Nationwide Pavilion 6-1 and New Century lost 6-2 to Corsham Centre Youth.
