SWINDON Supermarine boss Dave Webb is planning to exert pressure on underperforming players by bringing in new blood to create competition for places.

The South Marston chief is desperate to coax the best possible displays out of his side and get them back on the victory trail in following a run of seven games without a win.

And he feels the best way of doing that is to recruit new players, with two seven-day approaches currently in for a midfielder and a wide man-cum-forward.

“We will look to bring in one or two fresh faces,” said Webb, whose side have not secured a win in Southern League Division One South & West since October 8.

“I don’t want to be turning players over but the players at the club need to realise what’s expected of them.

“There’s one or two not performing to a level I’m happy with and they are getting in the team because there’s no pressure on the shirt.

“I won’t call anyone in to say they are no longer wanted, they have a challenge to make sure I’m picking them.”

Webb has stressed that it’s make or break time for Marine’s play-off ambitions over the next few weeks and says wins are a necessity.

Marine face Thatcham, Bishops Cleeve and Didcot in the next three Saturdays, teams that are all in the lower half of the table.

“The next three games will shape our season and we need to make sure we get some points,” said Webb.

“If you look at the league we’re down to ninth, the teams at the top are winning and the gap is four spots to the play-offs.

“If we’re going to get into that top five, we have to start now and the players know that.

“There’s some experienced players in there and they know where they want to be, they don’t want to be midtable and turning up on a Saturday with nothing to play for.

“These lads are used to success, they had it last year and they want it again.

“I know once we get that win, that will be what kickstarts us. We’re a match for anyone on our day.”

In tonight’s Division One South & West action, Cirencester will be hoping to extend their superb run of form when they entertain Paulton.
