JED McCrory has resigned as chairman of Swindon Town.

The Advertiser understands McCrory submitted his resignation to the board of directors during a meeting at the County Ground this afternoon and will leave the club with immediate effect.

His departure comes just hours after Lee Power was officially confirmed as the new owner of the Robins. McCrory is understood to retain a 40 per cent stake in the club through his company, Seebck 87 Ltd.

An official statement is expected later on Tuesday, in which McCrory will cite concerns over his own health as one of the reasons for his departure.

Sangita Shah is expected to stay on as a director of the Robins at least until the publication of the recently-completed club audit, which was conducted by financial experts Hacker Young.

McCrory arrived at the County Ground in February during a rushed takeover after former majority shareholder Andrew Black decided to pull the plug on his Swindon project.

He has since played a part in reducing the footballing budget at the club from £4.5million per year to £3million per year and has also overseen significant reductions in the administrative costs at Town.
