SWINDON TOWN: Power releases statement for Swindon fans

Swindon Advertiser: Lee Power is the new owner of Swindon Town Lee Power is the new owner of Swindon Town

NEW SWINDON Town owner Lee Power has released a statement following his takeover of the football club.

Power, 41, reveals specific financial information and suggests that he wants to be part of the Town project for the long term.

The statement reads: “I am delighted to officially announce that I am the new owner of Swindon Town Football Club.

"Firstly, I’d like to try and alleviate some of the fans’ concerns. To put the record straight, here are the facts: I paid £300,000 to buy out individuals who had shares in the Club and this gave me an option to take control of the Club, which I have now exercised.

"I put in £1.2 million to get the embargo lifted last season which I withdrew once the Football League had been satisfied. The financial forecasts I was given at the time were unfortunately drastically inaccurate and the Club has needed more financial input than I originally thought.

"For example: there was £500,000 of estimated income in the accounts for the summer concerts which, to date, has cost the football club circa £50,000. To date, I have put £740,000 into the Club this season and expect to put in another £400,000 before the end of the season.

"Divulging this sort of information isn’t my usual approach to business and certainly, when I played football, I always felt the best owners were the ones you didn't hear from. However, I do understand that a football club is at the heart of a community and the fans have been concerned about the future of their Club.

"My reasoning as to why I became involved with our Club is that I feel it has huge unrealised potential and that, with my business and football knowledge, I would be able to make the Club a viable business whilst offering success on the pitch. Hopefully the fans have seen that the early signs of what we are trying to achieve have been encouraging.

"As many of you will be aware, the main necessity this season has been to reduce the playing budget to a sustainable level which has not been easy and is still not where it needs to be. We wanted to implement a new philosophy and blueprint on the pitch.

"This gives young, technical players (who might struggle in other sides at our level) a chance to shine at our football club and hopefully a style of play that the fans enjoy coming to watch. At this point, I’d like to compliment Mark Cooper and Luke Williams, our young management team, who have implemented what we have asked fantastically well and I hope they stay here for the long term and we will all see this project through together.

"Please don't take this that our aim is to be a Club that just produces young players. I want to get this club into the Premier League. It has been in the past and even recent history shows that smaller clubs than Swindon have managed this feat and I see no reason why we can't.

"There has been a lot of talk about our connection with Tottenham Hotspur - there is no connection. I don't think it’s any secret that Tim Sherwood is a good friend of mine and I genuinely think he is one of the most knowledgeable and forward-thinking men currently in the game.

"For the past few seasons I have listened to his frustrations about his young players going on loan to sides that don't play in a style that they can shine in. When I became involved with Swindon Town my thinking was that if we took a few players from Spurs at the same time, it would help us in the early stages. An added benefit is that with the loanees coming from one club, their ‘bedding in’ period is easier, therefore reducing the risk. I think the three players we have on loan have been excellent for us so far. Whether we will have players on loan from Spurs next year, I honestly don't know, but we will certainly utilise the loan market again.

"Like I said previously, I have always felt the best owners were the quiet ones but I realise I need to be more engaging with the fans about what's going on and I will be in the future but through more traditional outlets i.e. the Club’s website, the Club’s programme or the local paper.

"I don't tweet and I don't ever go on forums. I won't be drawn into public communications with any previous Club employees, about their time here with me or their time just before I arrived. Everything I have said is factually correct and can be confirmed by Sangita Shah. I would like to thank Sangita: she would be a fantastic addition to any Board. I didn't know Sangita before my time at Swindon but she has worked tirelessly to try and help in all aspects of the Club and I am delighted that she is happy to continue in her current role.

"Finally, I would like to thank the fans. You have been fantastic in support of your team home and away this season. I realise you don't earn trust overnight but please judge me after five years and not five minutes. I think you will pleasantly surprised at how we move this club forward over the coming years.

Thanks, Lee.”

Well after the last 48 hours or so that was a good read. No doubt there will be a lot more pain to get to the self sustaining level. However it is pleasing that the owner wants to talk football and not just finances. Hopefully Sangita Shah will stay with us for at least another year, which is what I think it will take to see some real consolidation.

Been following your posts with interest, and agree 100% with what you say, from the moment jed and co arrived i just had a gut feeling" this just does not seem right" and i am pleased those characters have gone and have no more connection with the club, onwards and upwards and lets see if mr crouch invests some of his millions?or perhaps he already has.

like that to be honest.

jed rescued our club...or rather chanced his lucky pound on a punt that he'd be able to draw an investor or two in. well cheers Jed, you're lucky pound has realised you many more pounds, so fair play.

however.....(and my opinion), LP whilst being a bit of a wheeler dealer and not succeeding every-time is a serious businessmen who has a number businesses and has used his playing football money to good effect. not a bottomless pit I'm sure but able to sustain us in the short term.

good businessmen surround themselves with excellent people, and they get rid/shred those that aren't up to the level. so fair play, it did not take him long to wheedle out Jed's cronies. It took a bit longer, probably due to legals to get the chairman to stand aside. I don't buy the resignation piece for a second, but as it often is, it will be a case of nice statement for you in return for a clean exit.

So welcome Lee, good luck, clean slate starts now so let's get this club promoted. I look forward to seeing improvements year on year. Hope you are able to attract investment so you don't bear all the costs alone.

Yet more evidence that Fredi was telling the truth. He said the ring master will leave once Power takes over and that he would trouser over £250,000 for his troubles. Not bad for a £1 stake.

Add in all the data Jedco have massed up and can sell through my world and hes quids in, especially if he sells 'my world' to every other club. I wonder if this is what the Cheltenham chairman was referring to when he cast doubt over Jedco?

Jed was also clearly LYING about the concerts: He said if oneone turned up the club would still earn £300,000 and £1.8m if sold out. Powers statement says it cost us £50,000.

Still, I'm sure the happy clappers will still thank Jed for his 'services'.

The Elton John concert did not break even therefore if Jed felt that some tin pot tribute band was going to rake in a small fortune then he was misguided.

Here's to a brighter future I hope.

On the basis of what LP has stated above I'll give him a clean slate effective from today.

No surprise there was a shortfall on the concert debacle.

As to Jed? I wish him good health and then goodbye - in that order !

Well the dark side looks a few shades lighter and i hope Lee manages to attract a couple of decent investers, sounds like Lee is trying to achieve something here which we as fans can only hope and pray he succeeds.
His track record is not great but with his knowledge of football and hopefully
learning from his previous mistakes will stand him in good stead.

Obviously a very astute man is Mr Power. He is obviously very aware of what has been said here and elsewhere and has taken all of that on board and reacted to it in a positive manner by trying firstly to explain things and secondly demonstrate where he is coming from and where he would like to take us. A mission statement. He has also said he is not going to talk to us a lot but will keep in touch. I think most will welcome that with open arms, I certainly do. I can see he trying to do a lot on a sensible budget, and I welcome that as well. It seems he has a balanced view and agenda, and once again keeping things within the budget. We still have at least four players here we don't want from the last season and from what I can see their wages are a major impact on cash flow, the sooner they are gone the better. A few dealings in the January window, but I do hope we can keep Fodders as Power can surely see his potential. Right now in my book he is .......... most welcome.

Does he do Bremner impersonations ?

Good luck to him, to the good ship STFC and all who sail in her.

So glad to see the back of Jedda the Oik. One of the most dreadful bullshitters ever known to our club. It leaves a sick feeling that he has trousered £300k of Power's money, along with God knows what else siphoned from the club in consultancy fees, dividends, cars, expenses and bar tabs. For doing what? Selling our best players. Giving player contracts to the sons of mates. Wetting the beak of Banbury FC and the hammer fiasco. The concerts fiasco, the training ground fiasco, a 10-year catering contract (with backhanders?), losing around 1,000 supporters off the gate. Yet so many people fell for his ****.

The question now is how will Power get his money back? It's not very often you get the chance to buy a debt-free club for £1, screw up, and still walk away with hundreds of thousands. If Power is in to the tune of £1 million so far, with more needed, what are his motives and how does he expect to get his return? I too am concerned with his previous business record. I wonder if he will be as frank with the Adver over how his companies left football creditors in the lurch to the tune of £4.5 million, and why he needed to scuttle off to Switzerland? I expect Wes will be off in January, as a minimum. Predicted by quite a few people in the summer, who were then ridiculed by the inhabitants of Ostrich Island. Power will want his money back, which in contra terms will mean we lose Wes to get rid of Jedda.

No doubt Ostrich Island has a new King Bird to worship, and at least Power is a football man, but I fear that the woes of STFC have more to play out yet.

Some very positive statements from Lee Power and you do get a sense of frustrated relief from his words as well as a sense of the tensions this season in the words he doesn't say and the people he doesn't mention. If he is as serious about the long term as he indicates then I think he will be trying to hold onto our best players, although the finances still sound cause for concern. What a total mess we managed to get ourselves into when we had a board that actually had money. It really is very hard to understand how it could have been allowed to happen. Let's hope it is onwards and upwards

Ok. I read with interest all the comments again. I live in Kenya by attended my 3rd game of the season on Saturday and at times the football was amazing. At times the defending heart stopping!
I am always sceptical of whoever comes in to town now. As many are but what I would say is mccrory saved this club (with others) but he also United a lot of people and did a lot of work integrating the club back in the community. Power brought in so many players with his contacts. I feel we need to be grateful to both for the parts they played and for some the parts they will play. Jed hasn't. Walked away with millions. He helped this club. Power will hopefully take it forwards. Let's be thankful to the people who helped our club and support the people who will now take it forwards.

I expect Wes will be off in January, as a minimum. Predicted by quite a few people in the summer, who were then ridiculed by the inhabitants of Ostrich Island. Power will want his money back, which in contra terms will mean we lose Wes to get rid of Jedda.

No doubt Ostrich Island has a new King Bird to worship, and at least Power is a football man, but I fear that the woes of STFC have more to play out yet.

bully for you Den what day is that? One we knew was coming? Sorry did not realise that there were restrictions on what you can and cannot talk about! Next time I want to post something I will quickly run it past you - Den the Forum Police. But if you want my opinion on Jed I thought he was okay, never had any particular concerns - liked his engergy and the fact that he smiles and enjoyed what he was doing. As for Power liked what he said, but as with Jed he will have my full support until proved he is not what he says on the tin which of course mya not happen.

Happy now Den?!
We all comment on each other's posts bearwood. I've had plenty of stick for mine. The difference is that I talk about my football club and I don't understand why you and others have to harp on about other clubs, especially when momentous things are happening at our own. The "Forum Police" thing is nonsense. I didn't try to tell you what you can and can't post and I've never done any such thing. Carry on if it pleases you. It just puzzles me, that's all.

Dear Mr Know-it-all-I-have-b

hes,

I replied above about harking back to January 30th 2013 because I believe at that time we had no owner and the sale of Matt Ritchie was forced upon the club to keep itself afloat. You may be gloating that you followed your gut instinct but at that time we were up the creek without a paddle.

If you were a fan of the club you may actually realise that the consortium that took over at the time saved us from administration. I have not backed Jed but I have defended him because I believe his action prevented the unthinkable.

I will also defend the concert idea. If you knew anything about music you would know that the concert that was arranged at the county ground was the same line up that sold out several night at the O2 in London within minutes of going on sale. The reason the concert failed was bad advertising, and yes Jed and co should have learnt from that, but it was not a bad idea. My eldest reads music papers and from them identifies concerts to attend. It was not in any of these papers. Did it harm the pitch ? could lessons have been learnt ? I still say that they are a potential revenue stream. Other clubs hold them why not Swindon or is it another chance to have a dig.

Good luck Lee and thank you Jed, we bought our season ticket early and thanks to you we are not watching Conference football.

A few dealings in the January window, but I do hope we can keep Fodders as Power can surely see his potential. Right now in my book he is .......... most welcome.

bearwood, I am happy to apologise. I had a pop at the wrong person. What has frustrated me lately is the childish suggestion that people must be Oxford, Bournemouth etc fans because of their views.

And yes, I am interested to know that Austin scored. Thanks.

I stick by what I said about not trying to tell you what to post though. I'm a firm believer that people should be able to say what they like on here as long as personal abuse is left out of it.

The line up was dreadful and the night was a farce. Bad idea all round.

Wizard old chap,

If you want to be horrible to me in your frustration, at least be accurate please.

There is no 'A' in Butler, to correct you, but there is an 'A' in Wizard.

Your 'A' is at the back of your pants, where the vast majority of your totally stupid posts come from, YOU DICK!!
Hey BUTLER seems like you may now want to meet me, are you growing some balls at last JB or hiding behind that keyboard still. Chicken BARP!

Does he do Bremner impersonations ?[/p][/quote]Wizard old chap, you are a Turncoat in the extreme and change your opinions every day. It really saddens me that most other posters cannot see through you Wizard, or is it Chis and Fips or DKO or Glasred or Oldham Red or Pewsham Red or all of your other STUPID identities? Morning DKO - it is up to you of course, but may I suggest just leave the person to stew over his own inflicted fantasy mental problem.

The person seems tp get some late evening kick with this or perhaps, they have had too many shandies. Either way his/her problem not really ours.
