WOOTTON Bassett kept up their perfect record in the Davis Wood Hockey League East Central 1 with a 4-2 victory over Chippenham A.

Goals from Matt Daniell, Kyle Barnes and Mark Turner handed Bassett their 10th consecutive league win this term.

Bassett took the lead when Barnes played in Daniell at the far post and he deflected the ball home off the inside of a post.

Chippenham came back at the league leaders and scored a leveller from a well-worked penalty corner.

However, with half-time approaching, Wootton Bassett pressed hard to retake the lead and did just that when a through-ball was converted by Barnes.

The second-half started evenly but Chippenham got the equaliser.

Undeterred, Bassett found a way to nudge back in front. Dan Stanley hit the crossbar from a deflection, before man of the match Turner was wiped out off the ball, resulting in a penalty corner.

Turner converted the penalty corner with a powerful strike to put the hosts back in the lead. Stanley was then tackled to the ground, injuring his shoulder and winning another penalty corner.

Bassett couldn’t convert, but shortly afterwards the injured Stanley played in Daniell to add Bassett’s fourth and put the result beyond doubt.

Having taken part in Movember throughout the month, Bassett’s men hosted their own ‘Moscars' Awards Ceremony on Saturday evening.

In the end, the club raised over £250 for men’s health charities.

Meanwhile, Wootton Bassett B beat Chippenham C 4-0, with a hat-trick from the impressive Nick Thomson.

Wootton Bassett Ladies also ground out a 3-2 victory over Leominster to leapfrog their guests into fourth place of the West Clubs Women’s Hockey League North Division.

It took a short corner to finally breach the visitors’ defence, with Tegan Buchanan converting with a fine strike from the top of the ‘D’ to hand the hosts the lead at the break.

Emma Collison converted from open play from Bassett in the second-half and the game was seemingly put to bed when Katy Cox added a third for the hosts from another short corner.

However, Leominster launched a late rally and, with Bassett reduced to 10 players in the final 10 minutes, the away side struck twice to pile on the pressure, only for Bassett to stand strong.

Elsewhere, Wootton Bassett Ladies A beat City of Bath B 3-0 with goals from Sue Lee and Tracy Fieldsend.

Wootton Bassett Ladies B saw off West Wilts B 2-1 with goals from Jenny Jones and Abi Talboys and a player-of-the-match performance from Eleanor Hayward.
