BULGARIAN champion Alexey Ribchev says he will knock out Swindon’s Kelvin Young when the pair contest the vacant IBO Intercontinental super-middleweight title on Saturday night.

The 31-year-old claims Young has a dodgy chin and told the former Penhill amateur he is in for “a very hard fight”.

“I can advise Kelvin to prepared for a very hard fight,” Ribchev told the Swindon Advertiser. “I’ve watched some of his fights on YouTube. He has fast hands and good moves.

“However, his chin is not very strong and three of his opponents have already knocked him out.

“I am planning to knock him out for a fourth time.”

Six of Ribchev’s 17 career wins have come inside the distance and he believes he must stop Young if he is to be sure of victory at Swindon’s Oasis Leisure Centre.

“I expect Kelvin will be highly inspired and motivated to win (in front of his home supporters),” added Ribchev. “As you can see in my record I have a lot of fights far away from my hometown and I am not worried about it.

“I know the only way of winning against a boxer who fights in his home town is to knock him out. I will press him from the first to the 12th round.”

Ribchev’s most notable win of his career is a points win against Matthew Hall back in 2011. As well as being the number one ranked Bulgarian boxer, Ribchev also went the distance with English star Brian Rose and was stopped inside three rounds against Chris Eubank Junior.

And the Bulgarian believes his superior experience will give him the edge against Young on Saturday night “I am a lot more experienced,” added Ribchev. “I have nearly 200 amateur fights and now I have already fought some of the best professional boxers in the division in their hometowns.

“I am really very excited. I have had very important fights this year but the IBO Intercontinental title is a real chance for me to get in the top rankings.

“It is a great chance for me and if I win it, which I hope so, it will be my best achievement. It will also mean a lot for me and for Bulgaria too.”
