KELVIN Young made the weight for his IBO Intercontinental super-middleweight title fight and then vowed to give Alexey Ribchev both barrels when the pair meet at the Oasis Leisure Centre tonight.

The Pride of Penhill tipped the scales at 11st 13lb 8oz in yesterday afternoon’s weigh-in at the Moonrakers Public House on Cricklade Road, while Ribchev was slightly lighter at 11st 13lb.

The men faced down afterwards and having looked his Bulgarian opponent straight in the eye for the first time, the 26-year-old Young was in no doubt that he will need to be at his best when the pair go toe-to-toe this evening.

“I could see the fire in his eyes and he’s going to come and have a good go. He looks like a tough lad so I’m expecting a tough fight,” said Young.

“He’s coming to knock me out and win the title, so I’ve got to be on my A game. This is the fight of my life and I’m going to come out all guns blazing.

“I’ve come in a couple of ounces under the weight so I’m bang on weight. I did it perfectly and I’ve had two days of rest now so I’m fully-hydrated and ready to go.

“The training has been spot-on. We had a good long camp and I’ve sparred top pros up and down the country like Carl Froch, so it couldn’t have gone better.”
