KELVIN YOUNG WINS BY UNANIMOUS DECISION

10:51pm

Still waiting for the official decision.

10:51pm

Hearing that Young is going to get the decision here. 'Won it by mile' says one judge on his way past us.

10:50pm

Both men claiming victory at the bell.

10:50pm

YOUNG v RIBCHEV ROUND 10: Both men go to war in the final round, throwing punch after punch in a bid to convince the three ringside judges. It’s up to them now. Could go either way.

10:48pm

Into round 10 now, which was annoucned as the final round. A bit odd as this one was scheduled for 12.

10:47pm

YOUNG v RIBCHEV ROUND NINE: Another good round for Young, again using his jab to good effect. Ribchev is still looking to come forward but while he is busy he’s not landing much.

10:44pm

YOUNG V RIBCHEV ROUND EIGHT: Another good round from Kelvin as he starts to use his feet a lot better to work the Bulgarian around the ring. Jabs land again and he’s able to turn out of trouble. I would say Ribchev still ahead but the tide is definitely turning.

10:40pm

YOUNG V RIBCHEV ROUND SEVEN: Better again from Young as the jab continues to work. Ribchev is busy but not landing an awful lot. The crowd are really getting into this now which could prove vital for Young,

10:35pm

YOUNG V RIBCHEV ROUND SIX: Much better from Kelvin as he finds his range with his jab and looks to target the cut above Ribchev’s right eye. The Bulgarian is pretty fearless and keeps coming forward whatever Young throws at him.

10:30pm

YOUNG v RIBCHEV ROUND FIVE: Young is hurt by a body shot to the ribs but respinds with a combo of punches which all land. Ribchev is coming forward at every opportunity and Young keeps drifting to the ropes. The Swindonian cuts his opponent above his right eye.

10:27pm

YOUNG v RIBCHEV ROUND FOUR: Young is still drifting onto the ropes and into the corners, and as a result takes at least two big rights to the head. When he works his jab he’s keeping Ribchev at bay but it’s not happening often enough.

10:22pm

YOUNG V RIBCHEV ROUND THREE: Ribchev is the busier of the two and has Young on the ropes with a series of combinations. Young takes a load of punches but still looks to work.

10:19pm

YOUNG V RIBCHEV ROUND TWO: Better from Young in the second round as he finds his range with his jab, but he’s still being pushed back by Ribchev and is spending too much time on the ropes.

10:15pm

YOUNG V RIBCHEV ROUND ONE: Both boxers open the first round quietly as they look to find out about each other, and it’s the Bulgarian who snaps into life first as he lets fly with a series of punches, although not  many land cleanly.

Young struggles to get behind his jab and is pushed back onto the ropes.

10:11pm

Here we go!

10:09pm

National Anthems done and we are ready to go. The Bulgarian one is a belter by the way.

10:07pm

This is a huge night for Young, who could storm into the world's top 100 with a win, and he is excited to have the opportunity to fight in his hometown.

Swindon Advertiser: Bulgarian Alexey Ribchev who fights Swindon's Kelvin Young on Saturday night

KELVIN YOUNG

“I’m relishing this opportunity against a good opponent and I have to go out and beat him and open a few doors for myself,” he said.

“To do it in front of my home crowd in Swindon is a great opportunity and hopefully there will be a lot of people there to cheer me on.

“This is certainly the biggest fight Swindon has ever seen so it’s great to be a part of.”

10:05pm

A few indoor fireworks too.

10:05pm

By contrast, Young's walk in music is Eat Sleep Rave Repeat. Much better.

10:04pm

Here comes the Young Gun, arriving in the ring to huge cheers from his home crowd.

10:03pm

It seems Mr Ribchev is nicknamed 'The Fish'.

10:02pm

10:01pm

The IBO Intercontinental belt is now in the ring, a huge prize for whoever wins tonight's contest.

9:58pm

We are just minutes away, with Ribchev due to be on his way to the ring any minute.

9:57pm

Young was a sparring partner for Froch ahead of his fight with Groves, and is comfortable with having the controversial referee manage his fight.

Swindon Advertiser:

“I’m delighted Howard Foster is in charge of my fight,” said Young. “He is a top, top referee. He is world class.

“I could not be happier and I’m really excited to have him in charge of my fight.

“He is an extremely experienced referee and I now know both myself and Alexey Ribchev will be in safe hands on Saturday night.”

9:51pm

As an interesting aside this evening, Howard Foster, the referee of the controversial Froch v Groves fight two weeks ago, is refereeing tonight's contest.

That's the undercard done and dusted, and Kelvin Young should be with us very soon.

9:46pm

FIGHT FIVE – WELTERWEIGHT, 6X3 MINUTE ROUNDS: JOE HUGHES BEAT DOUGIE CURRAN - 60-54

Malmesbury’s Hughes started the fight the stronger and kept his opponent at arm’s reach throughout the opening rounds.

Hughes drew blood in the third round with a big shot to Curran’s nose, and produced more good work inn round four as his opponent desperately went searching for a way back into the contest with some wild shots.

Hughes dominated the rest of the round as he landed a big left which sent his opponent crashing into the ropes.

The Malmesbury man continued to dominate in the final two rounds to earn the decision.

9:42pm

9:41pm

Young's trainer, Richard Farnan, firmly believes his man will outbox the Bulgarian this evening.

Swindon Advertiser: Kelvin Young with trainer Richard Farnan and manager Keith Mayo

RICHARD FARNAN, LEFT

“We will outbox him,” claimed Farnan, who has trained Young since the turn of the year. “Our plan is for Kelvin to outbox him by jabbing and moving and getting in and out quickly.

“If we do that then he won’t be able to get his shots off. Kelvin is far too sharp for him and will catch him on the counter.”

“We know he is durable and we are expecting to go the full 12 rounds,” said Farnan.

“He is fit enough and we expect him to get frustrated and jump on Kelvin at some point.

“He is explosive and he has a few knockouts on his record, so we are not going to try and trade with him.

“I’ve studied every punch he has and he predominantly uses the right hook so we have to be wary of that shot and get in and out and make sure we only take that shot on the gloves.

“We are not taking anything for granted but Kelvin should be too sharp for him and should catch him on the counter.”

9:37pm

FIGHT FOUR – LIGHTWEIGHT, 6X2 MINUTE ROUNDS: RICKY O’BRIEN BEAT SID RAZAK – 60-55

O’Brien controlled the contest from start to finish, although Razak gave a good account of himself despite struggling to land any clean shots.

9:32pm

Alexey Ribchev certainly talks a good game, questioning Swindon boxer Young's chin.

Swindon Advertiser: Bulgarian Alexey Ribchev who fights Swindon's Kelvin Young on Saturday night

ALEXEY RIBCHEV

“I can advise Kelvin to prepared for a very hard fight,” Ribchev told the Swindon Advertiser.

“I’ve watched some of his fights on YouTube. He has fast hands and good moves.

“However, his chin is not very strong and three of his opponents have already knocked him out.

“I am planning to knock him out for a fourth time.”

9:29pm

FIGHT THREE – CRUISERWEIGHT, 4X3 MINUTE ROUNDS: COURTNEY RICHARDS BEAT LAWRENCE BENNETT – 39-37

Swindon Advertiser: Lawrence Bennett

LAWRENCE BENNETT LOST HIS UNBEATEN RECORD

Swindon fighter Lawrence came out flying and caught his man with a few early punches, but Richards soon hit back and was more accurate that Bennett as he connected with a number of shots.

The Swindonian had a point taken off in the third round for repeatedly holding his opponent and eventually saw the decision go against him as he lost his undefeated record.

9:24pm

The two boxers weighed in yesterday, where Young spoke to Advertiser reporter Ned Payne.

Swindon Advertiser: Swindon boxer Kelvin Young

KELVIN YOUNG

“I could see the fire in his eyes and he’s going to come and have a good go. He looks like a tough lad so I’m expecting a tough fight,” said Young.

“He’s coming to knock me out and win the title, so I’ve got to be on my A game. This is the fight of my life and I’m going to come out all guns blazing.

“I’ve come in a couple of ounces under the weight so I’m bang on weight. I did it perfectly and I’ve had two days of rest now so I’m fully-hydrated and ready to go.

“The training has been spot-on. We had a good long camp and I’ve sparred top pros up and down the country like Carl Froch, so it couldn’t have gone better.”

9:16pm

FIGHT TWO – WELTERWEIGHT, 4X3 MINUTE ROUNDS: THOMAS JARVIS BEAT MATT SEAWRIGHT - 40-37

Reading boxer Jarvis edged a narrow contest on points, with both boxers looking to punch at every opportunity. Jarvis was the more controlled of the two as he landed with a number of right hands and was a deserved winner.

9:15pm

9:11pm

After getting the news about this fight being secured, Young kep it a secret from his friends and family until just a few weeks ago.

Swindon Advertiser: Swindon's Kelvin Young in action at the Oasis

KELVIN YOUNG

“My missus, Keith (Mayo, promoter and manager) and Rich Farnan (trainer) were the only people who knew about it because it had to be a secret,” Young said.

“Not even my parents knew until the press conference to launch the fight but I’m sure they will all be bouncing off the walls.”

FIGHT ONE - SUPER MIDDLEWEIGHT, 4X3 MINUTE ROUNDS: BEN FITCH STOPPED RICHARD THOMAS IN ROUND TWO

Fitch stopped his opponent in the second round to record the first win of his professional career.

The Swindon fighter was second best to his opponent from Doncaster in the opening round but came out for round two and was the aggressor from the start.

He marked his opponent with a series of left-right combinations and eventually the referee stepped in to stop the contest with Thomas unable to defend himself.

9:03pm

Young vacated his Southern Area title to fight for the IBO International belt, but the fight was quickly upgraded to be for the more prestigious Intercontinental title.

8:59pm

But back to the main event, which Young firmly believes is the biggest fight of his career to date.

Swindon Advertiser: Kelvin Young with trainer Richard Farnan and manager Keith Mayo

KELVIN YOUNG

"This is by far the biggest fight for me and it’s massive, really massive,” he said.

“The last fight was big because I was coming off the back of a loss against Sam Couzens and I bounced back with a good win in the end.

“I put a lot of pressure on myself and made it one I had to win so now I’ve earned this fight it’s a big opportunity which I have to take this time.

“I honestly thought I would be defending my Southern Area title against Frank Buglioni in London and I was looking forward to that fight so hopefully we can meet again in the future for a bigger title.

“This was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down but I need to focus on gameplans and what I need to do.”

8:58pm
