SWINDON Town will look into the possibility of loaning Aaron Oakley out in the new year as the defender steps up his comeback from injury.

Oakley’s recovery from a broken foot is almost complete, but the Wales Under 21 international is still to play a minute of competitive action for Town despite having signed his first professional deal with the club over the summer.

Robins manager Mark Cooper wants to involved the towering centre-back in as many development matches as possible prior to the opening of the transfer window in January, and then he will consider sending Oakley elsewhere to gain valuable first-team experience.

“I’ve not seen a lot of him because when I came he was injured, he was injured in pre-season,” Cooper told the Advertiser.

“He’s certainly got all the attributes - he’s a big lad, he can handle the football and he’ll need a few games in the development squad to get himself up to match fitness.

“We’ll have the decision whether or not what we send him out on loan to get games.”
