YASER Kasim has revealed he came close to joining tomorrow’s opponents Sheffield United three years ago.

The Iraqi trained with the Bramall Lane club under the watchful eye of Kevin Blackwell and Gary Speed but was unable to make the move due to the fact his then club Tottenham expected to be compensated for his services Kasim eventually ended up at Town via Brighton, Macclesfield and Luton, but at the time the midfielder would have liked to have sealed a move to South Yorkshire.

“I nearly signed for United a few seasons ago,” Kasim told the Sheffield Star. “I spent two months training there under Kevin Blackwell and Gary Speed after I left Tottenham Hotspur.

“Everything was kept pretty quiet and I think something would have been done but, in the end, Spurs were very strict about the compensation they were owed and it was impossible to get things sorted. So I went elsewhere.”
