Bad Boy Bennett wants Richards rematch
LAWRENCE Bennett has promised a victory if he gets the rematch he wants with Courtney Richards after losing his unbeaten record last weekend.
The cruiserweight had won all his previous fights before taking on Richards on the KM Promotion show at the Oasis on Saturday night, but went down 39-37 after having a point taken off.
The Swindon fighter came out flying in round one on Saturday night and caught his man with a few early punches, but Richards soon hit back and was more accurate than Bennett as he connected with a number of powerful shots to the head and body.
The Swindonian had a point taken off in the third round for repeatedly holding his opponent and eventually saw the decision go against him as he lost his undefeated record.
Bennett, nicknamed ‘Bad Boy’ is keen to have another go at Richards and if he gets the chance is confident he will avenge his loss.
“I lost, but I don’t think I got beat up and it was a close result,” he said.
“He was tough and he buzzed me once, but other than that it was okay.
“For me it’s all about experience and if I can’t come back from this then I might as well forget it.
“We’ll do this again, we’ll get the rematch and I will win it, because, at the end of the day I’m better than him and I know that for a fact.
“If I do what I need to do I can beat this kid, that’s for sure.”
While Bennett was disappointed to lose his unbeaten record, the Swindon boxer believes the loss could do him good in the long run.
“He did his job and I didn’t do mine, fair play, but at the end of the day I’m the better boxer and I will come back stronger,” he said.
“This isn’t the end, trust me, it’s just the beginning.
“I probably learnt more from this defeat than I have in my victories because I didn’t keep it going and get back on the jab. He beat me fair and square and buzzed me, although I did the cleaner work.
“It’s on to the next one.”
