FIGHTCLUB: Jesse keen to put on a show at MECA

JESSE McGowan is keen to show his full range of skills when he makes his boxing debut on the Swindon Fightclub show at MECA this evening.

McGowan, 24, had no amateur training before beginning his preparations for the bout four months ago and will now take on Luke Rumble in one of the show’s two main events this evening.

The landscape gardener from Walcot is hoping he will be able to resist the temptation to go all out for the win tonight and wants to entertain the crowd with a full display of his talent.

“I’ve always had an interest in boxing and I like the challenge so I thought I would give it a go,” McGowan said.

“I’m feeling fit and I’m always down the gym keeping fit and healthy but the boxing stuff is very different. I took to it naturally which is good.

“I’m looking to please the crowd because I have a lot of people coming to see me and I will be doing it for them, and do all the people who have trained and coached me proud.

“At the same time I’m not going to go in there and smash it and try and throw big bombs, trying to get a knockout, I want to show people I’ve been putting in the work and I know how to box now.”

Rumble, a shop fitter by day, is also making his boxing debut “This is really popular in Swindon and I wanted to give it a go really,” he said.

“I did a bit of training before but only took it up properly about two months ago. It should be good and I’m looking forward to it.

“I don’t know much about my opponent to be honest but we will see how it goes. I’m not sure what style I will have because that will depend on how he does it.”

Elsewhere on the show, Shawn Grant defends his Ultimate Non-Professional Boxing heavyweight title against an out of town opponent, while Bec Connolly and Toni Sherwood take part in Swindon’s first all-female whitecollar match.

Tickets remain available on the door, priced at £25, with the show beginning at 7pm.
