LOUIS Thompson is having to revise his own personal goals for the 2013/14 season after surpassing his appearance target before Christmas.

Thompson turned professional last summer after graduating through the youth academy at the County Ground and made it clear in August that he was aiming for 15 run-outs for the first team over the course of the campaign.

However, the teenager’s start in the 1-0 defeat to Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Saturday was his 17th appearance in a Robins shirt this term - a statistic that he admits he is surprised by - and now Thompson is having to reevalute exactly how far he thinks he can go over the coming months.

“It’s about making new targets now and continuing to push myself,” he told the Advertiser. “I’ve got over my injury now, the gaffer’s been very good to me and the physio has sorted it all out. I feel 100 per cent now.

“The team is full of quality so for me to come in and play is a good thing for myself. I have been surprised by the amount I have played and hopefully I will keep taking these chances.”

Thompson did not want to put a number on how many games he hopes to be a part of between now and the season’s end in May, saying: “I don’t think I’d say double, you’ve just got to keep on adding games. I’ll have a sit down and a think about it but I don’t think there is a figure I’m looking at.

“For me I just was to do more in every game I play - maybe that’s a new target.

“The squad is very welcoming anyway and I’ve been with the boys since day one. Even if I wasn’t playing I wouldn’t feel as though I wasn’t part of the team.”
