DORSET & Wilts Senior Vase victory tomorrow would be the perfect way to cap an impressive start to his side’s season, according to Supermarine coach Sean Millwaters.

The South Marston side take on Blandford in the final at North Dorset tomorrow on the back of a victory at Combe Down last Saturday which left Marine firmly in the hunt for promotion from Dorset & Wilts 1 North.

Millwaters and his players are excited to have the chance of cup glory in front of them and the coach is keen to take the opportunity with both hands.

“We’re really looking forward to this game because we’ve worked through a number of hard games to get there and it’s a big occasion for the club,” he said.

“You don’t get to play in cup finals very often so we are really keen to make the most of it.

“A big thing could be how many of their army contingent are available given they are on Christmas break, but this is a cup final and we know it’s going to be hard.

“It comes down to who wants it most on the day because it’s a one off game, with a winner and a loser, so we want to finish off for Christmas and cap what’s been a very good season so far with a cup win.

“If we can do that we can roll on to next season and finish things off in the league.”

Millwaters admitted he doesn’t know an awful lot about his side’s opponents but insisted his team can’t afford to spend too long working them out.

“We have to play out rugby from the off because if you risk trying to feel them out for 20 minutes you can be blown away,” he said.

“We know what that feels like because we got blown away in the first 20 minutes by Minety.

“That won’t happen again and we will be prepared come kick-off, and we’ll go through our normal warm-up and the players will be ready to start right on top of our game.

“We have to be prepared to deal with anything they can throw at us while they have to deal with us too.

“The first 20 will be pretty frenetic with two teams finding out about each other but you can’t relax and look and you have to hit them hard.

“We don’t want to fight our way back into the match, we want to be the team in control with them having to do the fighting.”
