WILTSHIRE men recorded a fine victory in their last county indoor friendly match of the year but had to withstand a great recovery by their opponents from Worcestershire.

Under the leadership of Wiltshire indoor president Keith Baker (Westlecot), they beat the midlands county by eight shots as they ran-out 114-106 victors at North Wilts last Sunday.

Wiltshire made a great start and were 30-22 up across the board at five ends and by 10 had extended the advantage to 33 shots to lead 70-37.

However, Worcestershire then began to chip into the lead and cut it to 27 shots (95-68) at 15 ends before drastically reducing the deficit to only 99-88 over the next three. Wiltshire just held on to win 114-106.

Despite leading on four rinks and drawing on another of the six at 18 ends Wiltshire only won on two and drew on another but lost on three.

The two victories though on rinks five and six were by healthy margins which ensured an overall victory.

Westlecot’s Ron Salbury led his team to a 17-shot success while Roger Button’s rink recorded a 13-shot win.

Although 19-14 up at 18 ends, Martin Salter’s foursome had to settle for a 19-19 draw, while president Keith Baker missed out on the last end, losing 19-18 despite being 15-13 up at 18 ends.
