Town could lose Spurs loanee in January

Swindon Advertiser: Alex Pritchard Alex Pritchard

HUDDERSFIELD Town are one of a number of Championship clubs pondering over a January move for Alex Pritchard.

The Advertiser understands the Terriers are considering making Tottenham a bid for the winger, who is currently on a season-long loan deal at the County Ground, when the transfer window opens in the new year.

Huddersfield boss Mark Robins is believed to have watched Pritchard come off the bench during Swindon’s 2-1 victory at Colchester on November 16, as his own side had no fixture due to the international break, and has continued to have the diminutive wideman monitored since.

Whether or not the Yorkshire outfit would be willing to match the £1million valuation of the player is unknown, while several other clubs have also been keeping an eye on the 20-year-old.

Blackburn Rovers, Bournemouth and Town’s League One rivals Wolves are all tracking Pritchard, who is expected to be in demand in January.

Meanwhile, Swindon manager Mark Cooper has admitted that he is expecting to lose “two or three” players during the transfer window.

Wes Foderingham has previously interested Bournemouth, while Peterborough United are likely to drive a hard bargain for Nicky Ajose should the Robins look to prolong the striker’s loan spell in Wiltshire or sign him on a permanent deal.

With that in mind, Cooper’s transfer policy in the new year looks set to revolve around replacing what’s lost.

“Obviously big clubs are looking at our players and when players play well that is the law of the land. We will obviously lose I think probably two or three and if we do lose them then we’ll have to replace them,” he said.

“We have targets. Lee (Power) and myself have sat down and identified a list that we think can help us, but we’re very mindful we could lose players as well.

“We have to make sure that if we do lose players we’re ready to go and can replace them quickly.

“We’re short defensively - to be fair to Darren (Ward) and Grant (Hall) they’ve played every minute of every game and that’s a lot - it would be nice to give one or two of them a rest.

“I don’t feel (Raphael Rossi Branco) is ready yet, I don’t feel he’s 100 per cent ready to throw him in the team and that’s the reason we’ve not done it yet.

“If we keep all our players we’re fine in the middle of the pitch, we could well end up needing a forward.

“We could either easily lose one, two or three of them or keeping all three.”

Meanwhile, Town’s game with Stevenage, originally scheduled for January 4, has been moved to Tuesday January 14 due to the Hertfordshire side’s involvement in the FA Cup.

The Nicky Ajose issue might be a tricky one, Posh are possibly going to play hard ball on that, not only to recoup monies spent but they may consider us a promotion rival and would want to takeaway a goalscorer of ours - remember Blackburn and Duncan Shearer...
Tend to agree with Grim on Pritchard fee possibly £200k.

I would be gob smacked if any championship club would pay a million for Pritch. He's played a handful of games and at his early stage of his career is blowing hot and cold!! Certainly couldn't see him being a regular starter yet in the championship.

Greatest transfer daglish ever done IMO.
I like Pritchard but he do drift in and out of games too often, and a bit lightweight, also I said yesterday he is only worth what's someone's prepared to pay. I don't think a perm deal will be struck by any club but will move on loan again.
Think these next three games is massive for m.c.and I think it will decide his future here, lose today and play that useless 4-6-0 and the natives will be taking the piis out of him like we did with Wilson, hart, McDonald.
Hope I'm wrong because he's worked his arse off with his hands tied.
Think playing ranger could save him being sacked in the next 3 games.
Lets take each game as it comes and get behind them fully today
The futures cooper for the next 3 games at least

Not all the natives just those who think they know how to run a football team.

He's done a good job and I hope it continues,

As far as January transfers are concerned will wait and see what happens but its funny how some seriously overvalue our players but place lower values on those owned by other clubs.

Hoping for 3 points this afternoon.

Cooper will not be sacked at all this season. As long as we're above the relegation zone power will stick with him. He won't want to pay off any of his contract, and I'm sure cooper's wages are pretty low and he won't want to bring someone in who will cost more. I have a lot of sympathy for cooper in that I really feel his hands are tied - people moan about the 4-6-0, but Im not sure what else we can do away from home with no experience and such a light weight team. Many of us did say at the start of this season that with the squad that was put together that we would do OK at home but struggle away from home, and I think unless this is addressed in January this trend will continue. We simply do not have the versatility in the squad to be able to change our plan away from home

Grim, think things would have to get a lot worse before Coopers future was questioned. yes he's made a few mistakes with his formations and his use of subs hasn't always been great. But to be honest he is tending be over cautious because we have been poor at the back and he had to do something with the players he's got to stop conceding goals.

He is appreciated by Power and unless Tim Sherwood suddenly became available I doubt very much if any change in management would be considered this season at least.

Yeah agree with all you say, but the same defence played away at wolves when we were superb, even tho we lost by the same margin as sheff, and I'm sure every town fan would rather see that work rate formation than that dross from last Saturday against a very poor side.

The only change in the defence this season is Hall for Flint. I'm not Halls biggest fan, far from it, but MC doesnt need to sacrifice 2 forwards to protect him. Main problem is our midfielders don't like the ugly side of the game tracking back and tackling. Until we get some who can roll their sleeves up we will struggle. I am going to Bradford game but if it's 4-6-0 tactics looking for a 0-0 sorry but that will be it for me away from home until it changes.

Pritchard is good every other game at home, can go missing away from home. Ritchie was much better imo, played well 9 times out of 10. If Pritchard goes for £1m that will make our £500k for Ritchie look even worse.

Possible Jan changes -
Leaving - El Gabbas, Wes, Pritchard
Use Wes money to buy Ajose. Belford new #1 but need a back up
Assuming Troy will get injured again we need another cb
Tijane and Byrne the 2 wingers but I would like another
Ranger? Who knows!
Nathan T possibly sold, replacement needed
I would accept a bid for Kasim if one is made and get a Hollands type box to box cm

Possible line up (favouring our players over loans)
Belford
New rb Troy/new cb Ward Jay
Byrne Luongo New cm Tijane
Ranger Ajose

subs
New gk
Bartham
Hall
Harley
Kasim
Mason
NGuessan

Nathan T possibly sold, replacement needed I would accept a bid for Kasim if one is made and get a Hollands type box to box cm Possible line up (favouring our players over loans) Belford New rb Troy/new cb Ward Jay Byrne Luongo New cm Tijane Ranger Ajose subs New gk Bartham Hall Harley Kasim Mason NGuessan Louis Storey Wilesy

Grim, didn't that defence concede 3 soft goals at Wolves?
Yes Den they did!but the midfield and attack missed at least 10 very good chances, unlike at Sheff Utd we had ONE shot at goal, there's more than one side to our defensive probs ol boy!!!!!!

He won't be sold for a million cash deal. Prob more like Luongo, a little up front and the rest when sold on. If he develops he'll be worth a fair bit more in 3 years. Ritchie is good, but Pritchard could be a 5 million pound player one day and Ritchie won't. At the moment I'd rather Ritchie running at defences. Hope Cooper has his list ready for jan

sorry to name drop a bit. Popped into the Ladrokes in town centre to pick up my slips for the weekend and noticed a certain Mr Ranger casually blowing 4k on a couple of roulette machines. Man seems a mentalist, get me?

I still do not understand the loan system. If we sign a guy on a year loan deal, & build a team with him in it, just to have his parent club sell him off halfway through the season, what is the point?
If the guy does well, he can be sold off, if he doesn't do well, we have to pay his wages for the whole year.
IMO, loans always benefit the lenders. Except us when crocks are sent back for us to pay for their treatment.

Very sad to hear that, if true how do you know how much he blew? if he is a regular gambler probably why most of his money is held in a trust until he's 25.

What is of more concern is that Tim Sherwood has stated that he couldn't work under anyone else at Spurs, so it's the managers role or he is off. If that is the case, where does it leave us with this special relationship with Spurs? And secondly, Power might give him his first stab at first team management here? Slightly unsettling times ahead I think.

The squad is not complete - everyone knows that - but thought everyone understood that would not be able to happen due to legacy signings which can't be moved on until next year and taking up a big slice of the budget
.
However - all this hands too tied and vastly depleted and imbalanced squad is nonsense!
.
This squad is far stronger and more balanced than we have seen in a fair few years
.
OK - CB has been an issue but I don't think it was planned to have both Troy and Oakley to get injured in the summer and be out for half of it!
.
But that aside we have loads of options that 460 is not Coopers only option!
.
We have 3 RBs in Thompson, Byrne and Bathram
.
3 LBs in Jay, Byrne and Bathram
.
5 Central midfielders in Luongo, Kassim, Harley, Mason and Thompson
.
5 Wide players in Pritchard, Byrne, Ajose, N'Guessan and Storey
.
Then we have 5 yes FIVE forwards in Ranger, N'Guessan, Ajose, El Gabbas and Storey
.
There are lots and lots of options there to play any formation imaginable and can be balanced however we want
.
That's not even looking at players out on loan who could come back or considering others like Rossi who is deemed not ready
.
Maybe in a back 4 - but surely he should be able to coached through in a back 5????
.
Then the good news from today is we have both Troy and Tijane back next week - making us even stronger and given us even more options
.
Yes we could do with a few fine tweaks - but we are mile and miles away from being a depleted poor squad some seem to think
