MILES Storey came off the bench to net a late winner for Swindon Town, as they came from behind to beat Coventry City at the County Ground this afternoon.

Storey struck in the 86th minute with a tidy chipped finish over Joe Murphy to give Swindon the present of three points for Christmas, after Yaser Kasim had cancelled out Leon Clarke’s opener for Coventry with a wonderful volley.

Town manager Mark Cooper made three tweaks to his starting line-up following the 1-0 defeat at Sheffield United a week earlier, with Nile Ranger being the most notable change. The former Newcastle frontman began a match for the first time since November 9 after a series of disciplinary issues, while Nathan Byrne and Ryan Harley replaced Nathan Thompson and Kasim.

Coventry were minus Callum Wilson, as Chris Dagnall filled in up front alongside Clarke, but the visitors still possessed a potent threat going forward. The Sky Blues saw chances for Clarke, Franck Moussa and Dagnall go begging in the first half, as the two teams concentrated on cancelling each other out.

At the other end, in a goalless opening period Ryan Mason and Massimo Luongo both tested Joe Murphy in the Coventry goal, while Luongo also saw two further efforts fizz wide.

Coventry took the lead five minutes after the break, Clarke stealing in at the near post to turn home Cyrus Christie’s cross, and then hit a post through Carl Baker before Swindon rallied.

The Robins levelled with 15 minutes remaining, substitute Kasim thumping a splendid volley past Murphy from Ranger’s cushion header and, after John Fleck rattled the Town crossbar from 35 yards, Storey won the game for the hosts with a delicate finish over Murphy after bursting through on goal.

Kasim hit a post with a deflected effort late on as Swindon pushed for a third, but they didn’t need it. Festive cheer all-round.
