MARK Cooper praised the attitude of his Swindon Town substitutes, after Yaser Kasim and Miles Storey came off the bench to score the goals that beat Coventry City 2-1.

Kasim, dropped from the starting XI following a run of substandard performances, volleyed home a stunning equaliser with 15 minutes left at the County Ground on Saturday before Storey, who hadn’t played a minute of first-team football for the Robins since September, clipped home a delightful winner in the 86th minute.

Cooper was delighted by the pair, who helped change the game following their introductions in the second half and between them rendered Leon Clarke’s opener for the Sky Blues redundant.

“Yaser found himself out of the team and his attitude was spot on,” said Cooper. “We’ve said to the players that they’re going to have to have spells when they’re out of the team. He’s come off the bench and scored, had another fantastic effort that’s hit the post.

“Miles has come on and could have had a hat-trick. We know he’s got that fantastic pace and we do know that if we do go to two up front and he plays alongside Nile Ranger he’ll cause problems.

“He’s always been in our thoughts but with the way we play the majority of the time, with one up front, it doesn’t suit him.

“He needs to play down the middle of the pitch next to a bigger striker.

“We chose to open the game up a little bit and he got in numerous times playing alongside Nile.”

Cooper also lavished praise on the returning Ranger, who started a game for the first time since November 9 and impressed with his hold-up play.

“Nile gives the football team a different dimension, you can flick the ball up to him and he’ll get hold of it and I thought in the second half he was immense as well,” Cooper said.
