SWINDON TOWN: First of many for Kasim?
DESPITE scoring just his first goal of the season during the 2-1 victory over Coventry City on Saturday, Yaser Kasim believes he can finish the season with 15 if chances continue to fall his way.
Kasim was allowed to roam further forward than usual after being introduced as a half-time substitute in the win against the Sky Blues and produced a sizzling volley to level matters in the 76th minute after Leon Clarke put Coventry in front.
The Iraqi also hit a post late on and, having got the goal scent, he’s now setting himself grand targets.
When asked by the Advertiser what his realistic goal tally for the season should be, Kasim said: “It depends how the game is being played but if I get as many chances as this then 10 goals, maybe to 15.
“If I get as many chances as that then definitely.
“I think I could have got a few more and I was in some good positions as well but sometimes the boys didn’t see it, and it was the same with me.”
Kasim feels that his ability in front of goal has been negated by the deep-lying role he has been handed since arriving in Wiltshire over the summer.
Last week, however, Kasim was utilised in a more attacking position in training, and practice made perfect on matchday.
“When you try to establish a certain way to play sometimes certain things get lost in the team and the players,” he said.
“If I get a bit more freedom I think I can get more chances like today and I’d love to get more chances to score because goals are an important part of the game and it would help me become a better player.
“The boys are trying to gel together and there are certain players have a certain quality, so they’ll do that, and I have a certain quality so I’ll do that a lot more and have a little less freedom.
“When people learn how each other play a bit more then other players fill in for you and you go and you have that trust a bit more.
“It just takes time.”
