A LATE strike from Sam Collier saw Wootton Bassett grab a late 2-2 draw against in-form Thame at the Corinium.

The Hellenic League Premier Division strugglers made it five unbeaten in the league in a game where both sides finished with 10 men.

Collier fired home three minutes from time and the forward felt a point was a fair reflection of the 90 minutes in Gloucestershire.

“It was a crazy game but a draw was the least we deserved,” he said.

“We started poorly playing with the wind in the first half and it was lucky that we stayed in the game, as at 1-0 we were alright.

“We were a completely different team in the second half, we passed it well, worked hard and made tackles.

“Jordan Roberts was absolutely magnificent and got us back in the game with his goal. We could have folded with 10 men but when they had one sent off we knew we had a chance.

“When they scored it looked like we had been done, but thankfully we managed to get a late one which keeps our run going.

“When I first came in we had lost six on the trot, but we’ve turned it round and hopefully we can carry it on now.”

The first half was largely a non-event with Thame heading into the break one up thanks to Ollie Lynch’s well-taken goal seven minutes in.

It was after the interval that proceedings came to life, with Corcoran dismissed in the 51st minute after he was shown a second yellow card, but Thame failed to profit.

Bassett levelled on the hour mark when Sam Ockwell found Jason Milhench on the left wing and he sent the ball on to Roberts, who found a yard of space and drove a stunning 25-yard strike into the top corner.

Ellis Hercules missed the chance to restore the visitors’ lead when he failed to direct a free header into an open goal after home keeper Steve Allison could not grasp Dan West’s free kick.

Thame then went down to 10 men themselves when Ben Connelly was given a second yellow, and it could have been worse but for a fine saving tackle that prevented Collier from finishing Roberts’ low cross.

As it was, United must have thought they had a winner when they found the net six minutes from time. Bassett conceded possession cheaply in their own half and after West’s shot was blocked, Matt Willett curled home from the right side of the box.

However, Collier ensured his team took a share of the spoils when he received the ball from Ryan Stanners, turned his marker and unleashed an arrowing drive low into the corner.
