Play-off heartbreak is history now, claims Swindon Town's Luongo
THE surviving Town players will not be thinking about the play-off semi-final loss to Brentford as they prepare to return to Griffin Park, Massimo Luongo has insisted.
The Robins promotion hopes ended in a penalty shootout against the Bees in May, with Miles Storey missing the vital spot kick, with Luongo just one of a handful of players still at the club seven months on.
The Australian insisted the remaining players will try and forget what happened and try to treat the contest like any other.
“I’m looking forward to it because it’s a great place to play and I don’t think too many people are really thinking about it to be honest,” he said.
“There’s not that many of us still here but it’s just another game and we will try to forget about what happened.
“They are above us in the table and this is an important match because wins can set us up for the second-half of the season.
“We are working on our away form and we try different things, but we’re lucky to be in a good position halfway through the season so if we can get things right for the second half of the season we’ll be fine.”
While many of Swindon’s League One rivals will be training the Town squad have been given Christmas Day off in preparation for the game, but Luongo has insisted he will not be over-indulging.
“It’s good to have Christmas Day off but we won’t go too crazy because we have a big game, but it will be nice to spend it with the people we want to be with.”
