NICKY Ajose has warned his Swindon Town teammates against giving Nahki Wells even the slightest sniff of goal when the Robins visit Bradford City tomorrow.

Wells, a Bermuda international, has set the lower echelons of the Football League alight in recent seasons.

The 23-year-old managed 26 goals in all competitions last term as Bradford won promotion to League One via the League Two play-offs and reached the final of the Capital One Cup, and he has already registered 15 times this time around, with the Bantams in contention for a top six spot once again.

As a striker in a similar mould to Wells, Ajose fully appreciates his rival’s qualities up front and suggested any silly errors at the back will be quickly punished at Valley Parade this weekend.

“He’s a good player. He is a striker who preys on people’s mistakes,” said the on-loan Peterborough frontman.

“If you make an error he’s going to be there and he’s in double figures himself. He’s a good striker.

“At any stage in this league most teams will have a striker that if you do make errors will punish you. It’s not a bad league at all, there’s a lot of quality. You can see that with the amount of players who have scored lots of goals.

“There are lots of players scoring goals for each team and you can’t be giving people free goals like that.”

Bradford may not have won on home soil since September 28 but Ajose has seen enough of the Yorkshire side to know Town will have to be on their guard.

“I know their strengths with the front two – the flick-ons from (James) Hanson to Wells. They’re direct and get a lot of balls in the box. They play percentages but they do it really well,” he said.

“The crowd is a factor there – there’ll be a big crowd, 16,000-plus on the 29th and it will be difficult. We’ll talk about it but the lads who have played a few games should know enough about it before we even get there.”

Striker Ajose has two games remaining of his loan spell from Peterborough, with his final game being at home to Crawley on New Year’s Day.
