SWINDON Supermarine manager Dave Webb has a spring in his step just now, and that’s just from casting an eye over his substitutes’ bench.

The South Marston side have hit a mini purple patch after securing three victories on the trot and in addition to that, a decreasing injury list has left Webb purring.

Joe Tustain, Sam Morris and Jake Johns all had to be content with cameo roles in the 3-0 win over Paulton on Saturday while Aaron Ferris - a regular starter earlier in the campaign - and recent recruit Jack Hopper did not see match action at all.

“You look at the quality of our bench, that’s what it’s all about. I had to leave players out on Saturday,” said Webb.

“We’ve got good players here and there’s lads who didn’t get on and the lads that did had an impact, so that’s only healthy.

“Dave Bampton’s got a two-game ban coming up, so we need to make sure the players that are here can step in and do the job, and I’ve got every confidence they can.”

Despite his delight at the weekend victory, Webb has emphasised that his troops must build further.

Guildford are the visitors to the Webb’s Wood Stadium tomorrow and Webb is desperate to create a string of results good enough to propel his team into the top five come the end of the campaign.

He said: “There is that ambition and quality to try and get back up to those play-off positions and Saturday is hopefully a big step towards that. But it will count for nothing if we don’t pick up points against Guildford and Clevedon.

“It’s three wins on the spin and we’ve got to look to make it four on New Year’s Day.

“We’re not even half way yet so there’s still a lot to play for and we know where we want to be and hopefully this group of players can take us there.

“They’ve had a tough little run, but now we’re getting everybody back and the competition for places is there. You can see the better quality in the team.”

Elsewhere today, Cirencester travel to Shortwood while Chippenham Town take on Hungerford in Southern Premier action.
