PETERBOROUGH United may be lacking form going into their League One clash with Swindon Town tomorrow but Mark Cooper remains wary about a Posh squad packed full of talent.

The London Road side visit the County Ground this weekend without a win in four matches - their worst winless run all season - to face a Swindon team who have the best home record in the division this term.

However, with an arsenal featuring the likes of million-pound striker Britt Assombalonga and Lee Tomlin - a player Cooper branded one of the best in League One - the Town manager is not taking anything for granted.

“Obviously they started well and they’ve had a bit of a sticky patch but they’ve got some very good players in the squad and that could change very quickly,” he said. “I’m not being fooled by if results. I know that on any day they can seriously hurt you.

“They’ve gone and it’s Saturday that counts. Whatever has happened in the last few weeks has happened and Saturday is a different day, and I’m sure Darren will be saying the same.

“Any team that beats them have to work hard to beat them. I know they’ve had a few injuries, like we all have, and maybe it’s rocked their momentum a bit but I’m convinced that come the end of the season they’ll still be involved in the shake-up.”

Despite torrential rain in Wiltshire for the best part of a fortnight, Town expect Saturday’s clash to go ahead after sterling work by groundsman Marcus Cassidy and his staff.

“The pitch should be fine for how we like to play,” said Cooper. “I’ve been on the pitch and it’s perfect. At this level you can be restricted with the equipment you’ve got and Marcus can only work with the tools you’ve got.

“For the amount of rain we’ve had it’s in fine fettle.”

The club’s Liddington training ground is not in quite as good nick, however, and the Robins had to train on an incredibly muddy surface on Thursday.

“It’s not ideal but we’ve got to get on with it and make the best of it,” said Cooper. “It’s really heavy but we’re trying to prepare for a game on Saturday and we’ve managed to do that.

“The positives are we have been able to give players information about how Peterborough might play, strengths and weaknesses that I saw last Saturday and getting a little work into them.”
