GAME-WINNER RYAN WATT HAS HIS SAY
"Every point we can get right now is massive and to get two points in Sheffield is great.
"We need as many points as we can to climb up into a play-off position.
"To score the goal that won it, I was absolutely pumped."
WILDCATS HEAD COACH RYAN ALDRIDGE REFLECTS ON TONIGHT'S VICTORY
"It was a great win, especially under the circumstances, it was a great battle.
"They tied it up twice but we didn't press the panic button and went on to win.
"All-round I think we've had a great weekend and we've got to carry it on now."

Right, time to scoot downstairs to try and make sense of that game with the Wildcats players. Keep an eye on this liveblog for reaction.
Telford 2 Slough 4, Peterborough 2 Guildford 3.
Watt was straight over to the army of Wildcats supporters in the corner to celebrate. Nice touch.
This game is bonkers. I need a lie down.
Hoog is Swindon's man of the match.
He fired low past Sedlar's left pad having scooted to the left and cut back in. Great goal.
Unbelievable scenes. It had to be Watt didn't it? It just had to be.
AND HE'S DONE IT!
And Lee Haywood is off-target. Up steps Ryan Watt.
But the puck flies wide!
Gibson shoots limply past the left post. Here is Harding.
It's not to be. Sedlar kept his cool.
Lyle saves from Chambers. Fojtik to win it?
Hoog dumps Sedlar on his backside and taps in.
WHAT A GOAL!
Hoog has to score.
Lyle watches Wood all the way and saves.
Sedlar blocks from Nell. The Dogs just need to score now to win it.
Lyle pads wide from Lewis Bell.
Sedlar saves from Kostal. Advantage Dogs.
Calvert beats Lyle low. 1-0 Dogs.
How are your nails?
If we can get thru OT think we can win this in penalties!! Come on boys we are all behind u! #wildcatslive— @Faithangeljoy 12 January 2014
One minute left of OT.
Any pt on the road is a good pt. Coming back from 2-down makes it sweeter. Still another mark up for grabs, though. #bleedred #wildcatslive— @stripes 12 January 2014
Just 16 seconds left to kill.
If the Wildcats score in OT it will be the first 4-point weekend in how long!? #wildcatslive— @george_royle 12 January 2014
There are 53 seconds left to kill.
Huge slapshot from Davidson. Lyle saves and then there's a pile-up in front of the net.
Too many imports on the ice for Swindon.
Bit of a frantic moment in front of the Cats goal. The visitors survive.
Every point counts 3pt weekend guaranteed #wildcatslive— @sammywilson87 12 January 2014
That's a point Wildcats. Happy with that but now let's double it!!! #wildcatslive— @slapshot6032 12 January 2014
Whoever loses this, it's going to be an absolute sickener.
The arena is virtually silent.
We are going to overtime.
There are 21 seconds left.
COME ON SWINDON !!!!!!!! #wildcatslive— @Freckles2408 12 January 2014
Keeping track at home! TENSE! #wildcatslive— @HomTopper 12 January 2014
Lyle keeps out a huge slapshot from Wood.
GOAL! Sheffield 4 Wildcats 4, 57.55
There's barely two minutes to go and Hirst comes to the rescue for the hosts, jamming the puck past Lyle who didn't stand a chance of keeping it out.
Right. Don't blink. Don't move. Don't even breathe #bleedred #wildcatslive— @stripes 12 January 2014
Yippeee! Both wildcat teams winning!! Come on boys keep it going!!! Want both teams to finish on a high #wildcatslive— @Faithangeljoy 12 January 2014
Come on cats hold out for the win. This win will be huge #wildcatslive— @BenPayn 12 January 2014
Four minutes left to hang on. Swindon on the brink of a four-point weekend.
GOAL! Sheffield 3 Wildcats 4, 53.38, PP
The dream combo are at it again and is that the winner? Nell lasers into the danger zone from the left wing and Hoog gets a faint touch on it to send it into the right corner.
Just over six minutes left.
Greg Wood called.
Lyle sees a Gibson shot from the left wing very late and does exceptionally well to glove it.
3-2 c'mon @SwinWildcats let's keep this lead #wildcatslive— @sammywilson87 12 January 2014
GOAL! Sheffield 3 Wildcats 3, 49.33
The lead lasts all of 22 seconds as Payette (who else?) squeezes the puck in at Lyle's near post.
GOAL! Sheffield 2 Wildcats 3, 49.11
Wonderful bit of interplay between Kostal and Sandvik as the pair charge away on the rush. The former tees up the latter from the left wing and Sandvik sends the puck low to Sedlar's left.
It"s been a bit quiet for the last couple of minutes.
There are 13 minutes left of the third period. Sheffield looking slightly the more likely.
Lloyd Gibson blasts over.
Sheffield have began the third in determined mood.
It's simple for the Wildcats - do what you did in the second and bring the points home #wildcatslive— @slapshot6032 12 January 2014
Watt called. Not his first offence of the night.
This is about hockey now. Forget the nonsense. All Swindon need is a goal. How hard can it be?
Big 20 mins for Swindon need to play their own game and not play into those pups #wildcatslive #letsgowildcats— @Dunster43 12 January 2014
THIRD PERIOD UNDER WAY
We havent seen a @Wattdawg49 & Payette punch up yet! Think that plus a couple more Cats goals coming in the third! Bring it on #wildcatslive— @Faithangeljoy 12 January 2014
We will be back under way shortly.
So, do we think there will be a punch-up in the third? I'm saying yes.
I come back to twitter after making my food and find I've missed an equaliser Lesson learnt..... No eating during a game!! #wildcatslive— @ThatCurlyBird 12 January 2014
Tied after 40 and nobody's been ejected? Game on. Let's go, Wildcats. Big push now... #bleedred #wildcatslive— @stripes 12 January 2014
The zamboni is out.
Absolutely fascinated to see what happens in the third. Really can't call it.
Telford 2 Slough 3, Manchester 4 Basingstoke 1, Peterborough 1 Guildford 2, Bracknell 3 Milton Keynes 1.
I think there might be a riot in the corridor between the changing rooms if Swindon win this.
Thats more like it! Skill wins out every time, keep the energy and attack coming!! We will make this a 4pt wkend :-) #wildcatslive #magic— @Faithangeljoy 12 January 2014
END OF THE SECOND PERIOD
Sounds like a lively one in Sheffield this evening. Swindon are well in contention to look past Payette's tactics #wildcatslive— @ScottGummerson 12 January 2014
I feel a swindon wildcats equaliser coming on #wildcatslive— @sammywilson87 12 January 2014
One minute left of the second period.
Payette and Watt both called.
GOAL! Sheffield 2 Wildcats 2, 37.11, PP
Aaron Nell's fizzing shot is too hot for Dalibor Sedlar to handle and Alex Symonds of all people has the simple task of tucking the loose puck into an empty net. Sedlar stays down for some time after but eventually gets to his feet.
Come on you Cats!!! #wildcatslive @SwinWildcats— @swildcat 12 January 2014
Just over three minutes left of the second.
Just before the powerplay, Sandvik nearly found Kostal for a tap-in. Sandvik has been very lively tonight.
Edgars Bebris is called for hooking.
Payette semi-grabs Watt. The officials are straight in. BOOOOOOOOOORING.
Don't forget to keep those thoughts flying in #wildcatslive
Thats the magic im talking about! This game is no where near over!! Come on Cats, shouting from the Link ready for ENL! #wildcatslive— @Faithangeljoy 12 January 2014
Nine minutes left in the second period.
Get kostal signed up for next year! @SwinWildcats #wildcatslive— @rocketno5 12 January 2014
FIVE ON FOUR
Moore and Payette are out of the box.
FOUR ON THREE
Alex Symonds is called.
FOUR ON FOUR
Moore and Payette go into the box, both for roughing.
Watt conversing with Payette.
GOAL! Sheffield 2 Wildcats 1, 23.58, PP
With two seconds left of the powerplay, Adam Harding sends a simple pass across goal and Kostal is in the right place to grab his fifth goal of the weekend.
Calvert called for slashing.
Ashley Calvert has Jan Kostal by the throat. I wouldn't try that son.
SECOND PERIOD UNDER WAY
The players are back out.
Apologies for the lack of a poll tonight. A technical problem spoiled our fun, unfortunately.
Not long to wait now. Oh, to be a fly on the wall in that Wildcats locker room right now.
Not long to wait now. Oh, to be a fly on the wall in that Wildcats locker room right now.
Me and @x_amywilson on the edge of our seats up here in Scotland. No more fights please? Just some goals! C'mon cats #wildcatslive— @mjkane96 12 January 2014
Eventful but 2 goals is nothing with fire power we have got!! Kostal & Nell need to show that magic in the 2nd! Come on Cats! #wildcatslive— @Faithangeljoy 12 January 2014
The zamboni is out. We're about 10 minutes away from resuming.
Telford 0 Slough 1, Manchester 2 Basingstoke 0, Peterborough 0 Guildford 1, Bracknell 0 Milton Keynes 0.
Cats skipper Shane Moore is having a word with the officials, which is not an unusual sight.
Well, that was interesting.
END OF THE FIRST PERIOD
Sandvik fires just over.
BOTH SIDES BACK TO FULL STRENGTH
Two minutes left of the first period.
FOUR ON FOUR
Craig Elliott and Hoog both sit, the Swindon man for slashing.
Ollie Betteridge loses the puck in front of goal and Andrew Hirst nearly makes him pay. Lyle to the rescue.
Cats have not been good in the attacking zone so far.
Swindon have 1.06 of the powerplay left.
Anyone would think it was the playoffs?! Lol. Atmosphere on twitter tonight is great!! #Wildcatslive— @ThatCurlyBird 12 January 2014
FOUR ON FOUR
Korhon off for slashing.
For a smidge over a minute.
FOUR ON FOUR
Hoog sits for hooking.
The PA is not the best here. Bear with me on penalty calls.
Come on boys!!! @SwinWildcats #wildcatslive You can do it!!!!— @ThatCurlyBird 12 January 2014
If you weren't here for the first three minutes, you would think this was a pretty tame game of hockey so far.
@slapshot6032 @stripes Its out of their system now we need to regroup & show why we won by a mile last night! Come on cats! #wildcatslive— @Faithangeljoy 12 January 2014
Laptop for hockey, TV for Footy. Great sporting Sundays. What amazing games... #Wildcatslive— @Swinedog 12 January 2014
With the goal at his mercy, Korhon swipes at thin air. He had Stevie Lyle beaten all ends up.
I've finally caught up with the penalties for the early carnage. Here they are.
Payette gets 2+2 roughing, Lewis gets 2+2 roughing. Aldridge gets 2+2+2 roughing +2 for boarding and 2+10 for checking to the head
Korhon goes mighty close to making it 3-0. Probably should have scored.
Right that's the handbags sorted so let's play some hockey @SwinWildcats .. good move from @Aldy_47 to kit up and sort it out #wildcatslive— @Freckles2408 12 January 2014
20secs Payette in there already!! proves why he kitted up & it wasnt to help his team to win! Its going to be a brutal game! #wildcatslive— @Faithangeljoy 12 January 2014
General manager Steve Nell appears to be bench coaching for Swindon tonight.
Has this game been eventful enough for you so far?
GOAL! Sheffield 2 Wildcats 0, 2.06
Cats can't get the puck out and it's Lubomir Korhon who forces the puck home from close range.
GOAL! Sheffield 1 Wildcats 0, 0.27, PP
Just seven seconds after the face-off, the puck skids across the face of goal and Lee Haywood taps in a simple finish.
After all that, Aldridge has been binned.
That took all of 20 seconds.
Aldridge goes into the back of Craig Elliott and Payette is straight in there with some brutal punches. Aldridge gives his best but that's a home win. Meanwhile, Ryan Watt and Lewis Bell have dropped the gloves and are going hell for leather. Watty wins it.
FIRST PERIOD UNDER WAY
@nedpayne1 Both Nell and Kostal are also tied at the top of the Hat-trick chart with Bakrlik. Especially impressive for Nell. #wildcatslive— @chargingfungus 12 January 2014
Payette is roundly booed by the Swindon fans.
Come on Swindon! Cheering you on from my room! #wildcatslive— @mrsbatchelor1 12 January 2014
And here come the Steeldogs players.
Good luck @SwinWildcats sure there will be more goals, more fights & hopefully another 2pts from tonights game!! #wildcatslive— @Faithangeljoy 12 January 2014
You've got to give @Aldy_47 credit he could have sat on the bench and looked on instead he leads from the front top coach #wildcatslive— @Dunster43 12 January 2014
The Swindon players have stepped on to the ice and everything has been plunged into darkness.
Telford v Slough, Manchester v Basingstoke, Peterborough v Guildford, Bracknell v Milton Keynes.
ROUGH WITH THE SMOOTH
The only real bummer for Swindon last night was that Telford, Peterborough and Bracknell - all teams around Wildcats in the table - also earned themselves wins. Damn nuisance, that. Ah well.
Here are the officials. I hope they aren't expecting a quiet night.
ALL THE BEST THINGS COME IN THREES
Having both scored hat-tricks last night, Kostal and Nell are having their own personal duel to top the Swindon treble chart. Both now have three hat-tricks in 2013/14 with Nell having achieved the feat in three consecutive home games. Two of Kostal's came against Sheffield. Who are Swindon playing tonight, again?
Come on boys big game tonight go hard or go home as the saying goes #wildcatslive @nedpayne1— @stfcRed4Life 12 January 2014
For all that happened last night, there aren't too many Sheffield supporters here this evening. A sprinkling of Wildcats supporters have made the trip.
Lets hope the game is ice hockey and not wrestling. I am sure there may be tears before bedtime for the Dogs... #wildcatslive— @Swinedog 12 January 2014
#wildcatslive Wildcats to take the win at Steeldogs 4-1. With plenty of handbags we hope! #dancingonice #payettevsall— @charrabi1 12 January 2014
Keep those thoughts flying in please. You are doing a great job #wildcatslive
Swindon have a rather impressive 3-1 win-loss record over Sheffield so far this season and the last time they journeyed up to South Yorkshire they emerged narrow 2-1 winners thanks in no small part to an organised and mean display in the defensive zone. They were missing Henri Sandvik that night as well, don't forget.
Dont let steeldogs get in your heads. Keep on it like last night and 2 points will be ours #wildcatslive— @Kim_Jacobs_86 12 January 2014
@nedpayne1 #wildcatslive The safest bet tonight is lots of penalty minutes. Over 100 to Sheffield is not out of the question.— @chargingfungus 12 January 2014
LYLE BELIEVES IN CATS QUALITY
Here's Wildcats netminder Stevie Lyle.
“There are a few teams that are only just above us right now and after next weekend we could be having a different conversation.
“I’ve had a look through the schedule and we have around 20-odd games left and we’re capable of putting 15 wins together between now and the end of the season.
"We’ve got a lot more depth now, it’s just about playing for that full 60 minutes.”
Good to see that plenty of you are having your say using #wildcatslive on Twitter. Keep it up.
Is say to the Wildcats lads. Let Sheffield play their own game, it takes two dance! Show them our skill #wildcatslive— @slapshot6032 12 January 2014
C'mon @SwinWildcats let's show them puppies we ain't scared let's get them 2 points and make it a 4 point weekend #wildcatslive— @sammywilson87 12 January 2014
Fojtik in to the line up for Aku is an interesting call. With that said, the extra size should come in handy this evening #wildcatslive— @Thomas_Graham92 12 January 2014
Aldridge is taking part in the warm-up. Interesting.
As exclusively revealed by the Adver this week, Tomas Fojtik has verbally agreed to remain with Wildcats until the end of the regular season. The Czech will also take part in the play-offs if he manages 15 appearances before then. Here's what head coach Ryan Aldridge had to say about the whole thing.
"He will bring some different elements to our line-up - maybe we will have two import D one night and one import D another night. There’s lots of angles to go against different teams.
“He’s excited to come in and help us until the end of the year and there’s pressure on our Brits to be good now.
“We’re looking at every way to make this team play better.”
I forgot to mention that Loris Taylor ices for Swindon tonight. My apologies, Loris.
I'd take for a 3-1 dirty road win and a full bench of healthy bodies. You can keep the pantomime, I'd rather watch hockey. #wildcatslive— @stripes 12 January 2014
Swindon come into this game off the back of an absolute mauling of the Steeldogs at the Link Centre 24 hours ago. Jan Kostal bagged four goals and Aaron Nell a hat-trick (more on those two later), while Ryan Watt scored Wildcats' other goal in the 8-1 win. Greg Chambers got Sheffield's consolation. It was a fairly tasty game, to put it mildly.
How long before the first fight do we think? Three seconds?
How long before the first fight do we think? Three seconds?
Good luck & safe journey tonight @SwinWildcats Play like last night & another 2pts will be coming home! #barmyArmy #wildcatslive #bleedred— @ThatCurlyBird 12 January 2014
For Swindon, Aku Pekkarinen (above) is rested with Tomas Fojtik filling his fellow import's spot on the blue line. Forward Sam Smith, who had a bump on the head in practice in midweek, is still sidelined. As you have probably gathered, Payette ices for the Dogs.
We're minutes into the practice and Dogs player-coach Andre Payette is having a frank exchange of views with Ryan Watt already. All the players are surrounding them. It could be carnage tonight. This of course dates back to last night when Watt was fairly active in the fighting department, shall we say.
Any second now, the usual neat pool will appear below. What's going to happen tonight?
