ALUN Rossiter could find out as early as tomorrow if he has been handed the Great Britain team manager’s job.

The Swindon Robins boss appears to be in a straight fight for the role with former Birmingham team manager Phil Morris, who is already heavily involved in the country’s youth system, with a decision expected to come from tomorrow’s BSPA management committee meeting.

Gary Havelock and former national boss Rob Lyon also threw their hats into the ring to replace the outgoing Neil Middleditch, but both of their applications appear to have fallen by the wayside.

The decision on who will succeed Middleditch is one of a number of issues to be discussed tomorrow by the committee, made up of Alex Harkess, Jon Cook, Chris Van Straaten, David Hoggart and George English.

Morris is working closely with Coventry captain Chris Harris as he returns to the Grand Prix series in 2014, a conflict of interest which is thought to concern the committee, while Rossiter’s decision to not include Ashley Birks in Swindon’s team for 2014 having verbally offered him a place could count against him.

The committee is also likely to discuss the ongoing situation regarding Australian Nick Morris, who has signalled his desire to move away from the Robins in order to ride in both the Elite and Premier Leagues next season. A decision could be made regarding whether or not any club should be forced to buy Morris if he does to move on, with the committee believed to be on the side of the Robins regarding the matter.

The Blunsdon club issued a statement regarding an approach by Sheffield last week, with Elite League side Leicester also thought to be interested, while the Advertiser understands both clubs’ interest in the Australian is diminishing.
