Cooper happy with Swindon Town's transfer policy

Swindon Advertiser: Swindon Town boss Mark Cooper Swindon Town boss Mark Cooper

MARK Cooper is more than comfortable with the managerial structure in place at the County Ground, as it allows him to put all his energy into preparing his Swindon Town side on the training pitch.

With owner Lee Power wheeling and dealing behind the scenes in an effort to strengthen the Robins’ squad during the January transfer window, Cooper does not have to spend time negotiating with other managers and juggling figures on a balance sheet.

The Town boss is perfectly happy with that situation, saying at a recent press conference: “With our structure we’ve got Lee, who more or less signs the players. We’ll have discussions - myself and Lee - and we’ll decide between us ABC, which one we go for.

“Lee will be the one that will ring round, Lee’s got an awful lot of contacts and he’ll say ‘do we fancy this one?’ “It’s great because I don’t have to get involved with agents, I don’t have to get involved with the money, I just concentrate on getting out on the training pitch. We’ve got a list and Lee will try his best to get some in.”

Power and Cooper are still searching for a striker to challenge Nile Ranger for his place in the Swindon starting line-up, but the Town manager highlighted the problems associated with drafting in players during the January window.

“If you’re getting players in from a Premier League club sometimes there has to be a guarantee they’re going to play,” he said. “For me it’s the ones that want to come and play and start or improve their careers - they’re the ones you want to sign not people who are forced to come.

“We’re looking for players who are desperate to come and play for us because of the way we play and they want to get out of a reserve team and play first-team football.

“I think everyone knows we probably need another number nine because of the nature of the one we’ve got. Apart from that I don’t think we’re too needy of anything else.”

Another no news article from Sam and clearly the Power blackout is still in force. We all know we still need cover for The Lone Ranger for al the well previously documented reasons but one hopes that Power is also focussing on sourcing at least one defender -again for obvious reasons.
The article also shows what we all know - Cooper is just the glove puppet being manipulated by LP- of course he is happy not having to do the transfer talks - if he wasn't he'd be looking at a P45.
Good bit of sledging from Peter Taylor earlier in the week I thought geeing the game up. Let's just hope our prima donnas put in a shift today and get the three points

Plus the Spurs lads have to play when fit.....

No issue with that they but in return they have to put in a shift.

I would be tempted to play Branco or Hall in the holding midfield role today

Come on Sam this is not news, I read this article some time ago. What next, “in an exclusive interview with Fraser Digby” Swindon legend Digby reveals his favourite biscuit is rich tea!!

Sam get on the phone to Power and sort out the problem and get us something decent to read.

Many thanks.

i'm gettting fed up with cooper saying we are ok apart from someone to challenge Ranger. If Ranger goes down we need a replacement for sure (touch wood he doesn't) but my point is and any blind person can see this HALL AND WARD NEED REPLACING

send Hall back, we shouldn't be forced to play someone of his liability and Ward is well off the pace to. Do something about it Power !!! it's the reason we are not in the promotion mix now and that will be what costs us this season.

Wilesy, how can you have "no issue" with the Spurs players having to play when fit? Every single player should take to the pitch because the manager wants him there, otherwise he's not a manager at all. I'd rather have a team of triers struggling to survive than have a group of semi-successful players whose places are guaranteed regardless of ability and performance. I wonder what Louis Thompson, for one, thinks about it all?

Coopers a yes man to Power . Just wants to keep his job . Ranger should be out and we should be up for atleast 3 players . Shambles v the bottom side we will have no confidence after that . Other teams will think anyone can beat us . Stevanage gave us one of our worst defeats in the fa cup a few yrs back , we should want to beat them always after that . But they are on the rise , they are trying to get up the lge . We however seem to be getting worse . When beaten in the fa cup it was a giant killing , now we are on a par if not worse than them . I hope we go on a losing run now and Cooper and Power leave us . We need to start again for about the 50th time .

Err, cant see in the article where it can be inferred that Cooper is a "glove puppet' and is being manipulated by Power?

Clearly Cooper does have an input on potential signings and it would make
sense for Power to do the leg work given his background?

Differing opinions are fine, its when they become entrenched on both sides of the debate then some on here start coming across as scratched records.

Itslove do you really “hope we go on a losing run now” surely not. As a town fan I have never wanted our team to go on a losing streak. And if Power leaves who is going to come in for a league 1 club that don’t have any assets.

What a shame that your obviously limited IQ doesn't allow you to respond in a civilised adult fashion.
I have no problem with anyone having a different opinion to mine or even accusing me of being repetitive - if that's their view and they express it in a polite manner.
Clearly it would seem your vocabulary is limited to berating other posters whose thoughts disagree with yours.
I actually feel sorry for Mark, having a father who sets a really poor example in demonstrating the art of courtesy to fellow human beings.
Doubtless it is unlikely you will hold your hand up and offer a contrite response, that's if you understand the meaning of the word of course, therefore if you do have the "balls" to reply it'll probably be another torrent of abuse.

What a silly post. At this point in time, if Power leaves us = no beloved football club. Also, Coops was very clear at the start of the season that performances would be 'up and down' but exciting to watch due to youthful but inexperienced talent. I also think that for a manger told his priority was to avoid relegation and work with a limited budget he's done rather brilliantly. Finally, does it really matter if he doesn't pick every signing? It is a team game after all

Both Cooper and Macdonald are from the same school of desperation-Cooper obviously more so and I have said from the beginning he was a gopher, fully aware of his remit when he took the job.A proper manager with a degree of any control would have dumped Ward and Hall long ago.The season thus far has been mediocre-the league position is an enigma and without looking at the stats i would suggest we are there because the teams around us have wobbled at the right time.
I have no passion for this club any more-the same as the current board.Ask any of them to name more than a dozen of the Iconic players of the past-no I thought not.Power was a journeyman footballer and carried the journeyman tag into management. The fact he put 1.2 million in to save the transfer embargo was purely a business decision. He does not have the passionate views of those who post on here and if I could give him the money back I would. Now the **** stops the Adver from reporting at SN1.Its all too much and anyone with a modicum of sense should consider why PDC walked. He was shown the long term business plan from Dick Turpin mcrory and Power and that was why he and the team all walked. If i win the Euro milions I am straight down there and they can all do one.Fat chance of that happening but there you go.Probably not the only dreamer on here. either

Plus the Spurs lads have to play when fit.....

No issue with that they but in return they have to put in a shift.

I would be tempted to play Branco or Hall in the holding midfield role today
Wilesy, how can you have "no issue" with the Spurs players having to play when fit? Every single player should take to the pitch because the manager wants him there, otherwise he's not a manager at all. I'd rather have a team of triers struggling to survive than have a group of semi-successful players whose places are guaranteed regardless of ability and performance. I wonder what Louis Thompson, for one, thinks about it all?
I don't have a problem with us favouring the Spurs lads a) we wouldn't have them otherwise, b) as long as we can pull them out if they're not playing well. Looking at the big picture it's a short term fix til we sort the finances out. Plenty of room for Louis in the side but he hasn't made the impact he would have liked in the numerous chances he's had plus Kasim and Luongo ahead of him as well.

If the Spurs lads were really that bad then I'm sure Power would have had a word with his pal Sherwood....

Den I'm with you that players need to be dropped. Definition of madness doing the same thing and getting the same result but however bad we are away from home just can't believe we'd sign players with "they have to play" contract.

If that's the case than that would be a massive scandal....
