Wootton Bassett Ladies slipped to fifth in the North Division as they went down 5-2 to leaders Marlborough.

Bassett looked solid in defence in the face of some early Marlborough pressure, keeping out a number of short corners, as goalkeeper Laura Brown made a number of diving saves.

Eventually, however, Marlborough’s pressure paid off, as they converted a rebound from another Brown save.

Marlborough scored a second after a well-worked corner before adding a third on the break.

Bassett fought back with a goal from Tegan Buchanan after a one-two from a short corner with Ceri Burgess.

Marlborough again upped the pressure and scored two quick goals, putting them up 5-1. before tired Bassett added a consolation courtesy of Helen Wright’s penalty stroke.

Wootton Bassett have an immediate chance to climb the table next week when they take on BAC, who occupy fourth place.
