HIGHWORTH will be looking to avoid tumbling out of three competitions in a week when they take on Flackwell Heath tomorrow.

John Fisher’s side travel to the High Wycombe club for a Challenge Cup quarter-final tomorrow having been knocked out of both the Wiltshire Senior Cup and the Hellenic Floodlit Cup in their last two matches.

The Elms boss is keen to avoid another defeat and believes it’s vital his side maintain an interest in at least one cup competition as they bid to push their way up the Hellenic Premier table between now and the end of the season.

“We’re out of two of them already so it would be really bad to lose three cups games in a week,” he said.

“I did say to the lads that I would forfeit all three clubs in order to win the league but it would be great if we could make some progress in one of them. This one (Challenge Cup) is the only one left for us, although the weather forecast isn’t great for this weekend.

“The Floodlit was never a major one for us but the Wilts Senior Cup is one you always want to be involved in as is the senior one of the Hellenic, so we’re taking it seriously and always treat them with respect. I’ve never been a lover of the Floodlit and I’ve never been a lover of the Supplementary but the other ones we want to win.

“Saturday is going to be a hard game for us but it’s a quarter-final and we want to get through it because if we can it will keep our season alive. If we don’t then we only have the league to look at and then it’s a tall order. You need to be in one of the cups.”

Fisher’s side beat tomorrow’s opponents 4-3 at home in August before crashing to a 4-0 loss in the reverse fixture in October and the Worthians boss hopes his players will have the heavy defeat in the back of their minds.

“We beat them at home earlier in the season then they battered us in the league so we know it will be hard,” he said.

“This cup is all they have to play for because their season is totally gone and they are drifting around in midtable. This is their only chance to do something this season so they will be up for it.

New College are in Supplementary Cup action away at Carterton tomorrow and boss Rob Hopkins is just hoping his youngster can get a game in after a raft of postponements in recent weeks.

“We haven’t played a game for quite some time so, although the weather forecast doesn’t look great, it would be nice to just play some football,” he said. “We don’t put this cup down, like some local managers seem to, so we won’t be resting any players and will be giving everything we can to win.”
