Cooper's striker hunt not over yet
SWINDON Town’s business in the January transfer window is not yet done, with Mark Cooper hinting he may still be in the market for another forward.
Cooper has added George Barker and Michael Smith to his striking options this month after Nicky Ajose returned to parent club Peterborough United but the Town boss still has irons in the fire.
And he told the Advertiser that owner Lee Power may well be wheeling and dealing right the way down to 11pm on deadline day next Friday.
When asked whether his business was complete following the signing of Smith, Cooper said: “No, I think we might still add another one before the window.”
The Robins chief remained coy when pushed on the identity and position of his next target.
When questioned whether he was after another attacking player, he said: “It could be, I can’t really elaborate on that but it could be. You’re always looking to improve and if players become available that fit into our ethos and the way we want to go in the future then I know the owner will want to do something.
“We had a list and we’ve spoken to a few players. In the transfer window, one week it’s a definite no and 10 minutes later it’s a definite yes because the other club has signed a player all of a sudden and they then become available.
“Until it’s signed, sealed and delivered - nothing.
“We’re looking to freshen things up and if the right player becomes available I know that the owner will definitely try to do it.”
Meanwhile, Cooper revealed that the club has received an approach for one of his squad members.
“I’ve had one enquiry for one player who’s not in the team at the moment but nothing concrete,” he said. “The team was in the north of England.”
