MASSIMO Luongo celebrated a “big” win over Shrewsbury Town after Swindon Town scored twice in the last few minutes to secure three crucial League One points.
Two goals from debutant Michael Smith, coupled with Nile Ranger’s late header, were enough to give a below-par Town victory at the County Ground and keep the Robins in the race for a play-off place.
Luongo, who admitted the inclement weather played a major part in disrupting Swindon’s preferred passing style of football, was delighted with the win.
He told the Advertiser: “It was big. We’ve come from two losses and we are confident coming into home games but it sets us up for another away game on Tuesday. If anything it proves to the fans and to everyone that we’re not going through a slump at the moment and we can bounce back.
“I thought the first half was difficult, with the wind and the rain, and we had to focus on being more compact in midfield and all over the pitch and being a unit.
“We had to be first to second balls and everyone has to work hard for each other because they had the conditions as bad as us.
“It’s not really an excuse but for about five minutes we couldn’t get out. The goal-kicks were just coming back at us and it was difficult.
“To take us to the next level we need to soldier the moments and battle through them. It’s a learning curve but we stuck it out.”
