HORSESHOE Amateur Boxing Club had mixed results in Newcastle at the weekend.

The Swindon club performed well at Dunston Boxing Club and came away with three wins from their six bouts.

Horseshoe’s Keiran O’Donoghue topped the bill against the talented and more experienced Sean Banks from the host club.

Both boxers went toe-to-toe for all three rounds with O’Donoghue’s superior skills giving him a well deserved victory.

Head coach Brian Roberts was delighted with O’Donoghue saying: “Kieran will without doubt, go on to much better things in the amateur ranks.”

Horseshoe’s George White took on Dunston’s J Eccles in the first bout of the night.

White was in confident mood following his debut win the previous week and comfortably won the opening round.

Building on the opening round, White continued his strong start in the second before stopping his opponent.

Horseshoe’s Sam Vallis made it three wins from three bouts, seeing off L Frances from Leam Lane ABC.

Frances was unbeaten in four contests but Vallis boxed well behind his guard before earning a convincing victory.

Horseshoe’s George Richardson boxed well against a strong opponent in Chris McPherson.

The more experienced McPherson had to wait until the third round before getting a clear shot on Richardson, forcing the Horseshoe boxer to take a standing eight count.

Richardson had to take another standing eight count before his rival was handed a split decision.

Horseshoe’s Gary O’Reilly appeared to dominate his bout against L Nicholson of Dunston but failed to get the decision.

In what was a good contest, O’Reilly’s quick hands caught Nicholson regularly although the home boxer did also have his moments before earning a split decision.

Horseshoe’s Jordan Williams, on the back of a debut win just last week, found matters tough against D Fail of the host club.

Williams struggled with Fail’s superior height difference and was forced to try and land single shots which lacked power allowing his rival to claim the victory.
