SOUTHERN LEAGUE: Webb thrilled with Warrell signing

Swindon Advertiser: Dave Webb Dave Webb

SWINDON Supermarine manager Dave Webb was delighted to solve his goalkeeping conundrum by bringing in North Leigh’s Sam Warrell.

Having missed out on renewing Conor Thompson’s loan after the youngster left Torquay by mutual consent, Marine faced the prospect of thrusting the inexperienced Kieran Shail into the starting XI for today’s trip to Shortwood in Southern League Division One South & West.

However, Webb had two seven-day approaches in for new stoppers and following talks with Warrell on Thursday night, a switch was agreed.

Despite starting the season as North Leigh’s number one, the 24-year-old keeper subsequently got injured and having returned to full fitness, found his chances limited.

Webb said: “He’s been out in the cold at North Leigh, but they allowed us to speak to him and we managed to get something done.

“It’s good news for us because we now know we’ve got a goalkeeper for Saturday no matter what happens. I’m pleased to get someone in so quickly and of that quality.

“He wants to get back playing at this level and to prove he can play at this level as a minimum, and hopefully we can give him that opportunity.”

Webb still plans to hold talks with the other goalkeeper he approached next week.

Games this weekend involving Wootton Bassett, Fairford and New College have already been postponed.
