HIGHWORTH boss John Fisher is on the lookout for somewhere to train as he bids to stop his players from feeling the effects of consistent postponements.

The Elms side’s home game with Wantage this weekend, like all the other local Hellenic League fixtures, was called off on Saturday morning due to the wet weather, meaning Fisher’s side are still yet to play their first game of 2014.

The Highworth players have also struggled to train due to the condition of their pitch in recent weeks, forcing Fisher to try and find an alternative.

“We have to find somewhere to train because the lads need a get together and blast for an hour or so, that’s really important,” he said.

“Some of the players play Sundays and six-a-sides so they are keeping reasonably fit and it’s the same for every team at the moment. If other teams were playing it might be different.

“Our lads have always been reasonably fit but we do need to train and get some games in. We will be looking for somewhere outside, that’s what we really need, so a 3G pitch is what we need.

“You can play inside but I’m not a lover of that because you can barely run and do anything else so somewhere outside would be nice.”

The only comfort Fisher has been able to take is that their most recent postponement doesn’t mean a long midweek trek for an away game.

“It’s another midweek one for us now which is a pain but the only good thing is that it’s at home,” he said.

“When you have away Saturday games called off you know you are going to have to travel in the week but at least at home you can be that bit more comfortable.”
