JONNY May’s participation in the remainder of the Six Nations is in doubt after he broke his nose against France on Saturday night.

The former Wootton Bassett youth player made his bow in the competition in the Stade de France but had to be replaced less than 10 minutes in, on what was only his second England appearance.

The Gloucester back is due to see a specialist tomorrow after leaving the field with blood pouring from his face, making him a major doubt for Saturday’s game with Scotland at Murrayfield. A decision on whether May will remain with the England squad will be made following the examination.

May’s England teammate, Jack Nowell, saw the former Bassett player after he suffered the injury. He said: “I walked up to him later and said, “Are you all right, Jonny?” and he said, ‘I think I’ve broken my nose.’ I said, “You think you have…” It was all over (one side of his face).”

England went on to lose the game 26-24 following a late Gael Fickou try.
