SWINDON TOWN: Peterborough fan recovering after collapse

Swindon Advertiser: Peterborough United fan Ray Stratton is recovering in hospital after collapsing during last night's JPT tie Peterborough United fan Ray Stratton is recovering in hospital after collapsing during last night's JPT tie

THE fan who collapsed during Swindon Town's clash with Peterborough United last night is talking to his family in hospital as he recovers from the incident.

Ray Stratton, 67, collapsed late on in the second half of the game at London Road after suffering breathing difficulties and was tended to by pitchside paramedics before being taken from the ground in an ambulance.

His son Adrian, who was at the game with his father, told www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk that the first thing his dad asked him after regaining consciousness was for an update on the final score.

“I turned to talk to dad, but he was having trouble breathing so we knew something was seriously wrong," he said.

“A couple of fans started to help me, one was a medical professional who barged me out of the way so he could help.

“The paramedics at the ground and the fans who helped are heroes to me.

“If this had happened at home I might well have lost my dad.

“I’m told dad came round in the ambulance, but he can’t remember that. The first thing he asked me last night was ‘what was the final score?

“I saw dad today and he feels fine and he wants to come home now! He’s been sitting up and chatting.

“It was a worrying time for us all, but happily dad seems fine now. The family have been inundated will good wishes and we thank everyone for their messages of support.

“We’d also like to thank Danny Swanson (Posh player) for catching the ball and stopping the game. I’m sure what he did gave dad some precious extra time,”

Mr Stratton is currently in the Coronary Care unit at Peterborough City Hospital.

Just as well we didn't score a third - it might have had an adverse effect on his recovery

We wish him all the best, and well done to the POSH player for catching the ball, No Swindon player could have risked that last night, a red would surely have followed

get well soon

Did you notice on Sky TV that Craig Mackail-Smith thought that the game should have been abandoned following the incident.
I'll bet he would have said the same if Posh had been winning 3-0 not.

I'm also glad that Ray Stratton has recovered from his problems of last night, but if he travels to Swindon for the away leg, can we make sure that he sits next to a Paramedic !

great news, one question though how did the player catching the ball give him extra time? I saw the ambulance people rushing towards him before the game had actually stopped

Great effort by all concerned last night, and it just goes to show that early treatment really can make all the difference. Get well soon Mr Stratton, from a town fan who just today has heard the news that an uncle died in his sleep last night, probably due to heart failure.
.
You have a second chance, let's hope it provides many more years following your team!

He did not say that. He said the game should have been stopped and the score stand.

Agree with this, think that would be really nice gesture from the club.
