SHRIVENHAM have revealed their plans to pay tribute to former manager Dave Turner at Saturday’s game against Abingdon United.

Turner died aged 52 on Tuesday and tomorrow’s Hellenic League Premier Division fixture is set to be Shrivvy’s first outing since his tragic death.

Robb Forty, interim chairman at Shrivvy, has outlined the club’s plans in the event that the game is either on or off.

“Quite a large contingent of his family are coming and we are calling the reserve game off so they can all be there,” said Forty.

“It will be the full committee and the full squad and we are going to have a minute’s applause as he was an upbeat bloke, and the players will wear black armbands.

“I’ve done a piece for the programme and the players have done a few tributes.

“We will do everything we can to get the game on. I’ve spoken to the groundsman and asked him to do what he can and some of the players have offered to come and help out if need be.

“My only concern is that it’s gone too far for that as if we had a pitch inspection now then it wouldn’t be on.

“With the weather coming in, we’re going to need a miracle but we will do everything we can as it is a big thing.”

Should the game get the green light, assistant manager and former boss Mark Stevens is expected to take charge alongside a senior player.

With wet weather forecast, Forty and the club’s committee members were mindful that they needed to make contingency plans if the game was postponed.

He continued: “If the game is off then everyone will congregate at the club at 4pm.

“It’s our annual race night so we will get there early and have a few drinks and a toast to the old boy.

“We will do a minute’s applause but we will also carry that over and do it at the next home game as well.”
