BEN Gladwin admitted the right of midfield is not his favourite position but is happy to ply his trade in unfamiliar territory if it means playing a regularly part in Mark Cooper’s starting eleven.

The non-league graduate made his first start since joining Town from Marlow in Wednesday night’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy draw at Peterborough and was bright throughout as he looked to attack the Posh backline throughout the contest, providing the cross which saw Shaun Brisley slice into his own net for Town’s equaliser.

Gladwin has played most of his football either in the middle of midfield our behind a striker and although he admitted he is perhaps unfamiliar with his right-side role, is happy to go along with his manager’s wishes if it means he gets to start against Port Vale tomorrow.

“It was great to be able to start, although we began the game well, but for me it was good to get those minutes under my belt and we showed great character to get back into the game and hold on,” he said.

“I’ve not got a problem with playing there (on the right) although it’s probably not my most natural position, but I really enjoyed it and I’m sure me and the gaffer will talk about me playing there again.

“I had a couple of chances I maybe should have put a way but hopefully next time I will be a little calmer in front of goal.

“There were people out tonight for injuries and suspensions and other things but it was great to start and hopefully I can do it again. I’m not sure if I did enough though, you’ll have to ask the manager.”

After Jay McEveley was sent off at London Road, Gladwin was asked to defend more than he is used to but was glad to have had the chance to improve a different side of his game.

“You have different jobs and responsibilities and especially when we went down to 10 men, things changed and I had to sit a little bit deeper and help out at the back a little bit more,” he said.

“It was a learning curve for me and it was something different which is great for me.”
