WALCOT’S Patrick McDonagh takes another step on the championship trail on Sunday when he competes in the National quarter-finals of the Youth Championships in Aylesbury.
The former England Schoolboy International, who celebrated his 17th birthday last Tuesday, encounters Home Counties champion Edmund Edwards from Jubilee ABC in a Class A, 64kgs match.
McDonagh has already won a national title this season, boxing four times to win the Youth Ambition Championships in November.
He said ahead of his forthcoming contest: “I am looking forward to boxing on Sunday.
“I don’t know much about this lad, but he’s the Home Counties Champion so he must be pretty good.
“As usual I have trained hard for the bout and feel ready to do myself justice.”
His coach Harry Scott added: “Patrick is a dedicated boxer who always does Walcot proud.
“His birthday celebrations have been put on hold until after the contest, but I’m sure he’ll want to celebrate with a win and a place in the semi finals.”
The action starts at 1pm on Sunday at the Aylesbury Boxing Club, Rabans Lane, Aylesbury.
