Swindon striker Storey set for Shrewsbury loan deal

Swindon Advertiser: Swindon Town striker Miles Storey Swindon Town striker Miles Storey

MILES Storey has agreed a deal to join Shrewsbury Town on loan, the Advertiser understands.

Storey trained with the Shrews on Thursday prior to the switch and, though the length of the loan is unclear, he could make his debut for the Salop club in Saturday’s clash with Port Vale.

It is believed that Conference outfit Tamworth and an unnamed League Two side also showed interest in the rapid 20-year-old but Shrewsbury have won the race for his signature.

Storey, who has found it hard to break into the Swindon Town first team this season, has netted just once in 2013/14 and finds himself behind Nile Ranger, Michael Smith, Dany N’Guessan and George Barker in the queue for a starting spot in manager Mark Cooper’s side.

Last week Cooper told the Advertiser that the former Wolves youngster would not become a forgotten man at the County Ground, saying: “He’s young, he’s learning and Miles will come. I’ve had a chat with Miles to decide what the best way is for him to go forward.”

For the meantime, it appears as though the best way forward for Storey is a temporary move away from Wiltshire, designed to allow the 20-year-old to get valuable gametime under his belt.

sorry jay but it has nothing to do with how you behave its all about how good you are and at this moment in time he simply isnt good enought for our team, and having snipes at ranger everytime a story like this comes along does not help. most fans dont like the way ranger behaves but as long as he gives hiss all whilst he is on the pitch and scores goals that all what matters. i wonder what man utd fans think of george best?

Cooper said on Friday phone in that Miles is more suited to 4-4-2 than his 4-4-3 system, playing off a big striker. So it's itonic that we finally start playing that system and he still can't get a game, despite the Coventry goal showing what he brings to the table. Also how he is behind Barker and Danny is baffling. Good luck at Shrews Miles hope you bang a few in!

Well said Jayden. Whilst I take the point about Ranger being a class act, and I repeat I always want him to score when he is playing and we are a far better side with him in it....... There comes a time when (in my opinion) management has to do what is morally right. Miles must feel so disillusioned with STFC at present???? Ask yourselves honestly, if it was your business would you employ him????

I'm going to be frank, i'd rather Ranger was in the starting 11 than Miles, I rate miles highly for the future and hope he will go out on loan and come back a more polished player, but right now Ranger is right for this side. I wouldn't go as far as to say i don't care what he gets up to off the pitch but I would say we are a better side with him in it, and if the players around the team are content with playing alongside someone who they know won't be at training every day then why should we care? honestly? when he stops performing that's another matter and I am certain coops will drop him if that happens or he stops turning up again.

The club were going to sack Nile and it was put to the players and they ALL said they wanted him back (unless Wes is a liar!)
.
Niles has also been at training on time everyday since (bar when given leave of absence) - or is this the extra info we are not geting fed?
.
Also can you 100% confirm all other players are in bed at 21:00 every night?
.
So why would Miles suddenly be disillusioned with STFC?
.
Why can't a story like this ever be seen like it should be?
.
Pritchard and Murphy for example are highly rated at their parent clubs - but are felt not ready to play for them
.
They get sent out on loan and we STFC benefit from them being here, they benefit from being here as they get experience and their parent club benefits as they go back better players
.
Miles is in that boat - he did only sign a new deal until 2015 recently - and will come back better after a run of game in L1!
.
Coventry, Stevenage away last season and Villa - shows the potential he has - but he has never backed it up with an extended run of games at that level - showing he is NOT READY
.
He had lots of opportunities at the start of the season but didn't take it
.
Now honestly who would pick Storey ahead of Ranger, Smith or N'Guessan - I wouldn't so am glad he is getting game time elswhere and can come back better

What a crock !.... the internet is full of people who have inside information but cant share it.
If you have inside knowedge due to a position of trust then keep your information to yourself and stop making vacuous comments - if you have just heard something from the tea ladies daughters boyfiends uncle then its just rumour and not worth passing on. Either way share or dont but its pointless hinting you know something you wont share.

I agree - Miles is one for the FUTURE and not the PRESENT ! He has the essential speed but needs other qualities to go with it. I shall watch his progress with interest.

Word on the street - and I stress it only is that before I get shouted down is that the club would prefer tonight's game not to go ahead so that team and ground staff can fully prepare for Posh on Monday.
Whilst I don't like this JPT prioritising approach, the league should come 1st always IMO, it is understandable and with the foul weather if I can stay in the warm instead that's fine by me.

What you've said makes sense, but I agree that if it is at all playable, it should be played. Even with a game tonight I cannot imagine our surface being any worse than theirs was, come Monday.

That would be like Posh who called off their game ahead of the 1st leg!
.
That would p1ss the Colchester lot even more if the fans end up losing 2 train tickets!

This behind Barker thing is just Adver bull - Storey has come on ahead of Barker when both on the bench - so surely that make him "ahead" of Barker?
.
Obviously you have 1st teamers - who are "ahead" - but after that surely it depends on the game etc
.
OK Barker started against Oldham - but surely that is just Cooper wnated to see Barker in action!
.
Neither were on then on the bench against PV - so hardly showing Barker is ahead - as if he was and Storey wasn't then maybe it would have some legs!
.
Ranger, Smith and N'Guessan are ahead - agreed - then we only need one more and if it means Storey can go away and get games at Shrews and Barker is here as back up - surely that is win win for everyone

Hope it's called off - sorry to be selfish but Valentine's day has to take preference tonight for the sake of my ears for the rest of the year and probably beyond ....... to my death bed probably ...........

At least I'd get to see it if it was rearranged. Daft to change to 14th as it is just going to cause marital strife - why not play last night and have a longer period before Monday?

I have always rated storey as a special talent - remember those goals against villa in the capital cup - unfortunately his career has been hampered by injury since , causing him to lose his edge - hopefully a spell out on loan to another div 1 team will help him rediscover his form - hope he starts banging them in for shrews .

Don't think the pitch will be an issue here- its that wind - 60 m.p.h. forecast for tonight - will make the game a complete farce .
