SWINDON Town have no immediate plans to draft in a new striker to replace the injured Nile Ranger, while the club cannot presently recall Miles Storey from his loan spell at Shrewsbury Town.

Ranger was ruled out for the rest of the season earlier this week after tearing his hamstring during the goalless draw with Colchester United on February 14 but manager Mark Cooper has told the Advertiser there is no scope to source another forward to offer support to Michael Smith for the remaining three months of the campaign.

Furthermore, Storey’s temporary deal with the Shrews does not feature a recall clause - as is standard during the first 28 days of a loan agreement - and, regardless, Cooper is keen for the 20-year-old to get as much gametime under his belt as possible at the Greenhous Meadow.

When asked if Town would be trying to recruit a new face to replace Ranger, Cooper said: “I wouldn’t have thought so.”

On Storey, the Swindon boss said: “Miles needs to play so once he’s had five or six games, if he looks ready, then of course we’ll call him back.

“The way we play, we’ave got Dany N’Guessan and we’ve got Jacob Murphy. We like to play with a three not a two. With Nile and Michael Smith and if Pritchard’s fit, we can play 4-4-2 but we haven’t got that luxury now.

“We’ve got Murphy, Dany, Pritchard, Gladwin - we have got options.”
