SWINDON TOWN: Thompson back for Crawley clash after injury

Swindon Advertiser: Louis Thompson missed the 2-0 defeat at Leyton Orient through injury Louis Thompson missed the 2-0 defeat at Leyton Orient through injury

LOUIS Thompson will return to the Swindon Town squad for the visit of Crawley Town tomorrow night after resuming training with the Robins this morning.

The midfielder missed the weekend defeat to Leyton Orient due to bone bruising on his ankle but manager Mark Cooper confirmed to the local press this lunchtime that the teenager has been cleared to play tomorrow.

Wes Foderingham was this afternoon due to undergo a scan on a hip and groin problem, which forced him to miss the loss at Brisbane Road, and Cooper will make a late decision on his goalkeeper’s involvement.

Dany N’Guessan is over a groin issue, trained this morning and is fit for selection for Cooper, who has Nathan Thompson and Jay McEveley available to him as well after suspension.

Cooper said: “(Foderingham) is having a scan this afternoon to find out the extent of the damage to his hip or groin - we’re not sure which one it is yet. He’ll have a scan this afternoon and we’ll see how he is tomorrow.

“He’s felt it for 10 days or so but he’s been fine. He kicked a couple of balls in the warm-up and felt there would have been no way he could have kicked the ball.

“Louis trained this morning so we’re hopeful he’ll be available. Ryan (Mason) has had a relapse of his ankle so I don’t think he’ll be fit for maybe another couple of weeks.

“Coxy (Lee Cox) has had a problem with a nerve in his back so he hasn’t been able to feature. He’s started training again this week.

“It will be the same sort of squad but with the addition of Nathan, Louis and Jay.”

I would go with NGuessan and Smith, Murphy as an impact sub if needed.

N'Guessan isn't fully fit otherwise I would have him up top - Byrne in at LB and Murphy on the left wing

Actually just seen it says he is fit - so Yep N'Guessan in up top for sure!
.
Jay will play - so I guess it is either Tijane or Murphy on the right
.
Byrne was one of the few to come out with credit on Sat so he can't be dropped - I would go as said above but know Cooper won't so have to drop Tijane or Murphy from my team
.
Though we know Cooper will keep the Kasim in and probably Harley too!

Tempting though it is to go with 4 at the back i would still go 3-5-2.

I really think Ward needs a rest, he has been a yard off the pace mentally and physically for a while now. I like him I just think his age is catching him up and he needs a break.

So
Belford
Branco, Troy, Jay
Thompson (N), Luongo, Thompson(L), Kasim, Byrne
Smith, Gladwin (Danny if fit)

As previously stated plenty of options on the bench.
I would go with Murphy, Ward, Barthram, Barker, Gladwin (or Danny) and Bedwell.

LondonRed - Crawley are unbeaten since Gregory took over so i wouldnt call them a poor side plus they have played about 6 games less than us and if they win them all will be top 6, unlikely they will do that but the good news for us is the likes of Thompson is back and a couple of other regulars and we need them as the team that played saturday (i call it played but that were on the pitch) were awaful and i hope we can put in a performance and result tomorrow). Last three home games have been disapponting and we need to start performing at home again. Worringly for us Smith up front cant hold the ball up and was easily out fought by there centre backs who probably had their easiest saturday. We desperatley miss Ranger and i fear where our goals will come from. Murphy from looking at him saturday was poor as was Harley and Gladwin and Barkham and to me none of them are good enough for start and out of their depth.
Lets hope some of the other players are back soon as well.

Really pleased with the return of Jay and the Thompson's. Much stronger side with those 3 in it. Hopefully, we can get a result tonight.
