SUPERMARINE Sports Club kept up their assault on the Wiltshire League Premier title with a 3-0 win over FC Chippenham Youth.

In their first league game since December 14, Supermarine took advantage of a depleted FC Chippenham with goals from Chris Allen, Keiran Jennings and Adam Webb to keep second-placed Shrewton at arm’s length.

Supermarine manager Peter Milhench refused to get carried away with the South Martson side’s hold on top spot and praised his team for their character.

“We’ve still got the top four teams to play but I’m hoping to win it (the league) but all the teams know that we’re up there so they want to beat us more than the bottom lot.,” he said.

“The team isn’t different but attitude is better than what we’ve had before.

“For us to get the win was good for our league position but also for our fitness.”

The South Marston side took a 1-0 lead into the break after scoring five minutes before the interval. Neat passing between Dave Rendle and Lee Haywood ended with the latter beating three men before crossing for Allen to provide the simplest of finishes.

Supermarine doubled their lead on 70 minutes as Jennings latched on to a pass from Darren Hughes to strike home.

Chippenham only brought 11 players to South Marston and as they tired Milhench took advantage of a weak left flank for the visitors and switched to a 4-3-3.

Adam Webb was able to capitalise on the tactical switch, beating three players before scoring.

Supermarine maintain their eight-point advantage over Shrewton, who beat Marlborough Town 8-0.

Lugershall Sports ran out 2-0 winners at home Wroughton to overtake Southbrook in third. . Wilts Calne Town drew 1-1 with Corsham Town reserves.

In the two games to go ahead in Division One Mar Allen’s Intel side won 5-1 at Wroughton reserves and Blunsdon drew 1-1 with Sarum Youth.
