SHRIVENHAM’S run in the Bluefin Challenge Cup was ended tonight as they fell to a 1-0 defeat to Wantage Town.

Making their first appearance at their Barrington Park since the passing of manager Dave Turner, it was an emotional night for the hosts.

However, their hopes of adding some silverware to their campaign was ended when Tom Melledew struck for the Oxfordshire visitors midway through the first half.

“It was an emotional night,” said assistant manager Mark Stevens.

“But the lads did well. It was a close match and could have gone either way.

“To only lose 1-0 against the team third in the league shows that we have something about us.”

Tonight’s match against Wantage may have been Sam Collier’s final game in temporary charge with the club stating on the official Twitter that they are expecting to make an announcement regarding the managerial role tomorrow.

Meanwhile, New College Swindon secured three points in their Hellenic League Division One West derby clash with Purton following a 2-1 win.

Callum Shewry opened the scoring when he tucked away Lee Toomey’s cross 10 minutes before the interval and Max Slinn ensured the win for the New College with a 72nd minute penalty.
