CHIPPENHAM Town manager Mark Collier thought that his side claimed an ‘ugly’ 2-1 victory over Burnham at Hardenhuish Park.

The Bluebirds took the lead with only 20 seconds only the clock after the break when Alan Griffin worked the ball on to Lee Phillips just inside the area.

The striker then flicked the ball into the path of Rob Dean to loft his effort over the head of the Burnham keeper Adam Lawrence to notch his sixth goal since moving from Swindon Supermarine.

The visitors levelled when Lewis Driver headed home a free-kick on 72 minutes before Dean’s spectacular winner four minutes later.

The big striker controlled an aerial ball before firing home a stunning half-volley.

Chippenham boss Collier said: “Obviously, it wasn’t the greatest performance - the pitch isn’t one that what we’re comfortable having our passing game played on.

“It was a game that we needed to win ugly and grind out a result, and we’ve managed to do that.

“There were a few confusing decisions and the referee didn’t explain what was going on. (Lee) Togwell has gone right through Griff’s pad two-footed in the first half and we're expecting something to come from that but we haven't had anything.

“But when things go against you and you don’t get decisions, you have to work even harder to get a result.

“Winning ugly was the order of the day and we have to have both sides to our game - hopefully we’ve proved that we can scrap and fight and do it in difficult circumstances."

Collier also paid tribute to skipper Griffin’s spectacular winner.

“It was a fantastic strike and where we were sat in the dugout, you could see that it was going in as soon as it left his foot,” said the Bluebirds boss.
