SWINDON Supermarine manager Dave Webb is hoping that he will have Sam Morris back for the end of the season after the midfielder was carried off in their 4-1 victory over Godalming Town.

The 24-year-old’s injury took some of the gloss off Marine’s fine success after he left the field on a stretcher and was taken to hospital with a suspected broken leg in the 85th minute.

X-rays lataer revealed no break but Morris is facing a considerable length of time on the sidelines with ankle ligament damage.

“It put a bit of downer on what was a really good match,” Webb said. “Thankfully the X-rays showed that the leg wasn’t broken.

“At the moment we are not sure how long Sam will be out or the extent of the damage - hopefully it will be before the end of the season, but I can’t say at the moment.”

Marine had got off to a fine start against the Surrey side when Josh Parson’s 25-yard free-kick in the sixth minute took a deflection off the wall and left visiting keeper Zaki Oualah stranded.

But Godalming, who held Swindon to a 1-1 draw back in September, fought their way back into the match and drew level when Jack Broome swept home an 18th penalty after Mark Watkins had been fouled just inside the area.

With teams going in at the break level, Marine came flying out of the blocks at the start of the second half and netted three goals in six minutes to seal the success.

Ashley Edenborough put Swindon into the lead on 49 minutes, before Parson bagged his second two minutes later and then Edenborough completed his brace soon after.

“It was good to bounce back from the disappointment of the last minute defeat at Wimborne,” Webb said.

“My front two of Ash and Josh are combining really well at the moment and as a manager that is great to see.”

With 16 games of the campaign remaining, Webb is targeting a push for the play-off places in Division One South and West after finishing the top five last term.

Marine are currently sitting in eighth place two points behind North Leigh, who presently occupy the final play-off berth, with two games in hand on the Oxfordshire side.

“After tasting the play-offs last year, we want to be there again,” Webb said. “As a club we are desperate for success.

“I think that we are going to need somewhere in the region of 76 to 80 points to be in those play-off places at the end of the season. We’re on 47 at the moment so we know what we need to do.

“Hopefully we can keep the players fit and fresh in the run and then we will have a good chance because you could see on Saturday that they were enjoying their football.”
