HIGHWORTH Town will be looking to make the most of home comforts for the first time in nearly three months when they entertain Ascot United tomorrow.

John Fisher’s side have not played on their Elms pitch since the middle of December and the Town chief eager get home.

But they will face a tricky test, with Ascot sitting in fourth place in the Hellenic League Premier Division.

However, Fisher will be hoping that the heavy ground will make life difficult to their visitors.

“Ascot have got lovely facilities,” he said. “Their ground is right next to race track and the pitch is like a bowling green and they like to get the ball down and pass it around.

“With no disrespect to our pitch, it is not the best. Having said though when they came to last time they battered us (4-0).

“They completely outfoxed us by playing the ball over the top and we barely got a touch.

“I won’t be surprised if they have already got their gameplan ready. It is going to be a tight one and hopefully we can get three points.”

Fisher will welcome back midfielders Toby Clark and Chris Flanagan after the pair have finally completed their three-match bans for their dismissals in the Thame United match on December 28.

But their return is tempered by the loss of striker Brad Clark who is struggling with a knee injury.

“It nice to have this sort of problem again where nearly everyone is fit and available,” Fisher said. “It creates more competition for places - something that every manager wants.”

One player eager to start tomorrow will be midfielder Sam Wadieh after he join Town from Ascot.

“He can’t wait,” Fisher said. “He was playing for them at the start of season before moving down this way and signing for us.

“He is really looking forward to playing against his old club.”

But while the three points on the pitch is important, so is the much needed revenue from having a home match for the first time since December 14.

“It has been so long since we last played at home and it will nice to get some money back into the club,” Fisher said.

“It would have been nice to have played at home before now, but saying that had we had a home game scheduled it probably wouldn’t have gone ahead.

“The weather has been pretty good this week, so we are pretty hopeful that they won’t be any problems.”
